Life Sucks!!!

I'm at home ATM recovering from knee surgery. recovery is going well and I thought I would be ready to go back to work by the end of next week.

Unfortunately I received a call from my employer this morning, telling me I have been made redundant due to the current financial climate.

I'm somewhat shattered to say the least and I think I've gone through every conceivable thought so far in the last few hours.

At first I was calm...fine, I thought....shit happens.
Then I was bitter. I have been employed there for quite a number of years, so it hurt.
Now I'm just in the highly depressed stage because this couldn't have come at worse time. Christmas is just around the corner, the mortgage is a heavy burden and I worry about what will happen to my four children if I don't get a job sooner rather than later.

Sorry to hear what happened Jason. Honestly I didn't even know it was legal for a job to lay you off while out recovering from an illness or surgery.

Thanks guys...and gals for the words of encouragement. The more my wife and I spoke about it the more it seemed to us that this is the perfect opportunity for change in our lives.

Thanks to the people that sent PM's about options I may be able to explore online...very appreciated. I will look into these in a while after I get a clearer idea of what direction I want my life to take.

LOL...over the bitterness now...well, mostly. Thanks for the replies. It's nice to see that a community like this can care about it's fellow members.

If not, then gather your credentials, resume, and references and start looking for another job right now. Make it your goal to apply for a job a day. That way, within a few weeks, you'll be receiving replies on a daily basis. This daily return on your efforts will make you feel useful, more determined, and hopeful.

The worst thing you could do right now is procrastinate, drink, sleep in, or blow your money thinking that it does not matter. Everything does matter now because everything you do henceforth will add up.

On a closing note, if you feel comfortable please post your resume or education, skills and abilities here, and see if any NPers can come up with some ideas that you haven't thought about. I'm pretty sure that more than one NPer has been in your situation before and can offer you some solid advice. I can still taste that 30 cent chicken pot pie I had to heat up with a blow dryer because I had no kitchen or money one summer in college. I ate it right before bedtime so I wouldn't get hungry after the disgusting feeling in my stomach wore off. And I won't forget all those McDonalds quarter pounders I ate during summer school because all I had for food was a stack of free Quarter Pounder coupons I had found. I've never eaten another one since.

Try putting these sayings on your desktop so you don't forget:

You shouldn't feel bad for being angry, my friend. Hang in there and work through it, you can do it!

Think about this. My best friend (and roommate) lost both of his legs in an accident this past summer. He's 21 years old and just stood on his new legs just a little bit over a week ago. The best thing you can do is work out what's going on and tell it to others...even here at Namepros. If you are a man of faith, praying never hurts.

Thanks William. I don't believe in God. I do believe in the inate ability to show kindness, empathy and understanding. I like to believe that people on the whole are good at heart. This thread has only enforced that feeling. People who I wouldn't know from Adam offering words of support and encouragement. Makes me all warm and fuzzy.

I have an Autistic boy as well. He is the most beautiful little soul.

Anyways...with that said (and thank you all again), I am now looking into going back to school (university) to become a school teacher (Primary age). It seems very daunting to me atm. The application, the enrollment and then being probably 20 years older than most of the other students. Scary a S**t to me really.

But like they say in the classics..."as one door closes, another one opens". Now is my chance to do something that I wanted to do when I was eighteen.

Once again...thanks to all you wonderful Namepros members. I am truly humbled by you kind words and encouragement.

No older student wants to sit in a classroom full of younger college students. So choose a night and weekend credentialing program. There are many out there, at least there are in the US (University of Phoenix). Once you become a teacher, you should never want for stable employment again. You can also get rich as a teacher, but usually this happens because the teacher invests wisely long-term. It's easy to invest when you know your job is safe long-term. Children aren't going away. And if the job opps in Australia are limited, then just come to the US. The urban school districts here hire foreign nationals at the drop of a hat. I even met a first grade teacher who couldn't speak any English. The same went for most of her students.

Best of luck to you and congratulations for coming up with a viable solution so quickly. That's one of the things that makes a good teacher better than the other ones.

Heya J hope everything is better now Sorry I wasn't around lol or I would have replied WAY sooner. Been busy with work. Anyway, remember what you always tell me when I'm having my down times; keep your head up!

I truly believe things happen for a reason and even tho things might SEEM like hell sometimes, I really think that life (not just god) works in mysterious ways. Everything will work out in the end and heck it seems like it already is!
