I know development is the best, but is using a generic domain (say for example LLL com or net) to drive traffic to your website, ranked high as legitimate usage in the event of a WIPO?

What about personal usage of a domain, such as maybe a password protected personal storage webspace, or as an umbrella host domain for a number of addon domains.

legitimate use pretty much boils down to you demonstrating good faith when registering a domain. unless you're attempting to profit in some way from someone else's trademark (ex: registering the tm to sell to the company, implying that you're somehow affiliated with the company, etc) your actions can't be considered in bad faith.

i don't see why anyone would go after you in those situations, unless there was something else going on.

If you are using a domain to redirect traffic to another site, that may not be considered as a legitatmite business practice. So if the domain in quesiton can be viewed as a TM is some way, it would be argued you are trying to steal traffic for your site. Additionally, you would not be creating "interest" in the name to claim rights to it.
