Legal or Illegal?

Hey,
im just wondering if this would be legal or not.

If i downloaded a free template from lets say.. clantemplates.com
and i built a site. Would i be able to sell the site for money?

That should be legal as long as your not just selling the template itself. But I would clarify that it is a free template in your post/ad if you do sell it.

As long as you leave all the copyright messages and stuff in the template and notify the buyer that it is a free template it should be alright. If in doubt you could always email the template site.

I believe the clantemplates are GNU licensed which you should read. If they are indeed GNU then you can resell the site with template. Do a text search in the license for "transfer" as well.

As long as you have written a single word in it and you sell it.

IT IS LEGAL.

You can sell it for 1000 or 100 it is upto you how much you want and how much the buyer is paying for it.

And please follow the copyrights rules set by the prty providing the template.

No matter to mike_wiseman, since I see he is going to build it himself anyway, but I don't think you're right. It depends on the terms of the license, not the cost. A license may specifically preclude transfer to a 3rd party and request the new user to enter into an agreement directly.

I have stock photography that is licensed this way. I can sell a web site using it, but there are serious limitations on my sale of the art. IE, I can't sell my interest/rights of use. Any new buyer needs to enter directly into agreement with the stock photo company or use something else.

Gotta really watch yourself when building/buying/selling websites with third party content..
