This is the "Learn" name for what is by far the #1 most popular instrument in the world.. Estibot has a valuation appraisal of $120,000 and 70 advertisers for LearnGuitar dot-com.

"Learn Guitar" is one of the most popular search terms for the word "learn".. "Learn Spanish" is #1 , "Learn English" is #2, and "Learn Guitar" is not far behind of the top 5.

With the advent of the ever popular "Guitar Hero" video game series , I see huge possibilities with this one as more and more people are wanting to learn Real guitar.. Here is a link with GuitarInstructor dot com stating how many more people have started learning guitar lately (You can read it down lower in the article). Their very nice site just launched 6 months ago-

http://www.austin360.com/music/content/music/stories/2008/03/0308musicheroes.html

http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2007/Hal-Leonard-guitarinstructor.com.html

Moreover, LearnGuitar (.) net is a fully developed site with a major music outfit running it. According to compete, the .net received almost 4000 unique visitors for the month of April , and the .net received 9000 unique US visitors in February. This is according to compete

Also, abcLearnGuitar (.) com, according to compete, received 14,000 uniques for the month of December ((christmas season when people have more time off I suppose), and over 5000 uniques for the month of April.

They also have a forum on their site with over 5000 members.

Furthermore, LearnAndMasterGuitar (.) com received about 27,000 unique US visitors for the month of December, and about 10,000 visitors for April.. Again, it looks like for every such guitar learning site, they all had big spikes in December and January, so it must be the increased time off people have to learn guitar.

LearnClassicalGuitar dot com has averaged about 6000 to 7000 visitors per month over the past year, with a high of over 10,000 visitors for this past March.

Here is yet another of the many websites ( and publications) that have the "Learn" and Guitar" term as the main component of their name (business model , publication)- these guys have sold over 70,000 courses here-

http://www.learnguitar.uk.com/

And there are more websites that carry the wording of "Learn"and "Guitar" that have guitar learning courses.

What are your opinions on it? I would also appreciate any ideas or suggestions as far as development is concerned. As always, your opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

Best,
AQ

Mastering Music Through Online Instruction:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/10/15/MNGA6LN32L1.DTL&type=printable

"With 3.3 million electric and acoustic guitars sold this year -- nearly three times the number just 10 years ago -- the guitar is the best-selling instrument in the United States. (The growing interest in the guitar no doubt helps explain the wild popularity of a much-noted video on YouTube.com featuring a young Taiwanese guitarist playing an exceedingly difficult rock arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon.)"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Guitar Hero' changes music industry

http://www.austin360.com/music/content/music/stories/2008/03/0308musicheroes.html

In December, music publisher Hal Leonard Corp. launched a Web site called GuitarInstructor.com. It calls the site "the next step for 'Guitar Hero' fanatics." The company is also publishing song books featuring tracks from each game and is offering tablatures (musical notation for guitars) and videos showing how to play those songs on its Web site at 99 cents and $1.99, respectively.

Jeff Schroedl, vice president of product development for Hal Leonard, says the site is benefiting from the renewed interest in playing music that the games have generated.

There's so many more people exposed to guitar playing through the games," Schroedl said, "Between the song book and the Web site, we're trying to tap into that as best we can."

He says, however, that shredding to "Run to the Hills" in the expert mode of "Rock Band" won't make you a real guitar hero. "There's not an obvious segue between the two other than the fact that the songs are popular and that if they're hearing the guitar parts of the game, they're more apt to want to learn the songs on guitar."

Although Schroedl says interest in guitar playing has grown fastest, lessons for other instruments are also benefiting from the wave of music games. The market is strong," he said."More people are wanting to play music."

Online learning exists for many instruments -- notably electronic keyboards, which interface well with computers and the Internet -- but nowhere does it appear more prevalent than with the guitar.

Dave Sebree, owner of the Austin School of Music, said he had 190 new students sign up for lessons in January and February, "It's crazy," he said, "we can't keep up with them all."

Looks like quite a good growing market to me.

$5k to $25k.

A lot lot more if turned into a learning site similar to viewdo - giving users the ability to watch people play on top of having access to tabs

Hey, great domain name! I play the guitar so I like this one especially. I'd love to see a well developed site here.

Whether it's worth $5,000 or $120,000 (undeveloped) depends on type-in traffic and PPC income, I'd be interested to know what sort of figures we are talking about.

Does that parking page work? It doesn't have any PPC ads on the front page. I like to see something to click right on the front page usually.

Good luck, it's definitely a nice generic dotcom.

Hi estibot, and thanks.

Yes, the PPC page works fine. But we do plan on developing it in the very near future.

Best,
AQ

svip, I sent you a PM last night asking you to call me today to further discuss what we talked about over the phone. Maybe you missed it or you don't have a popup set up in your profile to receive PM notifications. So I thought I'd post thinking maybe you will see it here.

Best,
AQ

This domain is a mint.

I would consider the estibot valuation the absolute minimum I would let it go for. Contrary to popular opinion (and my usual advice) I would NOT develop (this one) unless you have serious resources. This is a vacant lot on beachfront property.

I am curious to know why you'd be against development of the name. I have seen average dot com's that were just marginally developed bringing in a ton of dough.

Well, to be clear I'm not against it, I think it should be developed...ultimately.

This isn't an average dot com, it's a great one. If you're looking to resell it for top dollar sometimes a developed site will scare away potential buyers from approaching you, specially if they are not tech savvy. If you have the time, skill and content to do it right then by all means do it.

Most names need to be developed to unlock their value. The value here is clear, so I think that although you could definitely generate revenue from affiliate programs and ads, you may be trading pennies for dollars.

Now, I don't know what it cost you to acquire this gem. Maybe you are the end user. If you bought it for revenue then disregard my comment and go whole hog. But if your ultimate goal is resale it shouldn't be hard to find a buyer. There's no legal issues here, it's as generic as generic can be, so put up a big "For Sale" sign and pick up the phone. Don't even bother with domainers and forums, go straight to the end users with the deepest pockets.

It's more work and your sales/negotiation skills will play a big role but the payoff will be worth it. If this were mine, I'd be calling Guitar Center, Fender, Gibson etc. Go to the source. Sure, you'll run into ignorance and resistance but if you're persistent you'll eventually get a hold of the right decision maker and then you're made in the shade.

So it depends on your situation and intentions but that's what I would do.

As a guitarist and domainer, I am JEALOUS. The only way you can go wrong is to sell too low. I mean, you're right, this market is HUGE.

Just my 2 1/2 cents...

I share the same sentiments namesugar. I could see how development "could" scare some potential buyers. But sometimes when a company is serious, they will buy out a company. I've had high offers on names/websites that were developed.

I think another angle that needs to be mentioned is leasing. Contacting guitar learning courses, and there are MANY, such as www.GuitarWorkshop.com, can be beneficial. I have domains I am leasing out at $x,xxx per month on multi-year contacts. This way you can get a good monthly income, still keep the name, and they SEO and build the traffic up for the name to boot. At the end of the lease, you have a much more valuable domain name, and got paid handsomely on a monthly basis

Sounds like you've got it covered. If you can create a great revenue stream, keep the name and build value, well, it's a beautiful world isn't it?

I think developing a site such as this one can be very beneficial, and profitable- ( This is very nice, and this site gets high HIGH traffic by the way)

http://www.guitarschool.net/

And this one is VERY VERY nice too- this site was recently launched just a few months ago:

www.GuitarInstructor.com

And of course the many MANY guitar learning schools such as this one, for lease. Here's just a couple of the hundreds of them

http://www.mi.edu/majors/guitar/1.aspx

http://www.nycguitarschool.com/

etc etc etc.....

The possibilities are endless in my opinion.. You can augment this name into many other practical uses. Not only to learn electric guitar and acoustic guitar, but to learn Bass guitar as well.. Also linking to guitars and amplifiers (and accessories) for sale can be an added money maker. Adding some good forums for users etc.. There's A LOT of possibilities with such a name. It's insane.
