I originally posted this question in the Web Development section, but I have not received any responses. After I posted it there, I realized that this programming section is probably a better place for it, so I am sorry for double posting. If a mod reads this - please delete the other one.

So moving on....

I am sure you all know what I am talking about here. You know how on some sites, you will click a link or be waiting for your search results, but you will be shown a page in between with a large advertisment on it. Sometimes you have to wait for your desired page to come up, or sometimes you can just click 'skip this advertisement' or 'continue'. I know myspace and gamespot.com does this sometimes (but not always). I am wondering how can I get this sort of advertising system on my website. I would like to give my visitors a chance to skip the ad though. Is there a script that does this? Or maybe some one could give me an idea on how to code this myself (i know some php and mysql)

I was thinking about how this could be done, and I am thinking something with frames. The top frame would hold the button to 'skip this advertisment', while the bottom frame would hold the advertisement.

I guess my question is then, is there allready some system developed for this set up so that I can track how many clicks the ad gets, implement ad rotation and so on. I am thinking maybe I could convert a banner advertisement system into this, and use that to manage the ads.

Any other ideas?

Thanks a ton in advance. (i love namepros for all the help i receive here - thanks everyone!)

Are you talking about the ads like on deviantART? Just keep clicking around and you'll see what I think you're talking about. (Not the Google ad banner or the other ones that sometimes show up.)

yes!

after clicking around for like 10 minutes i finally got that advertisment, lol.

But yes, this is what I am looking for.

I see that most sites that use that form of advertising make it random. I would like to make this definately show everytime someone clicks a certain link.

i have been trying to find more information on this type of advertising all day, and i finally figured out what it is called ...

interstitial advertisements

I have not found much information on how to make this work for me though. I have to run right now, so I will do some better searching later.

But for now, does anyone know anything about this, like how can i use it on my site?

I think it's just javascript that makes a <div> show up over the whole page, then when you click continue, it just hides the div.
