Because of exactly what you said...it is pronounced and looks exactly like cripple. Who would want to call their business, essentially, 'Cripple'? It's terrible because many people, especially those in wheelchairs, the elderly or those with trouble walking would find it insulting. And it sounds bad for business, because you are essentially saying your business is 'crippled'...which is not how you want to portray your business.

I guess the difference to me is negative connotation can just be informal whereas derogatory is definitely offensive.
