Kingdom Tower, being developed in Saudi Arabia by World's Richest Arab Prince Alwaleed and a group of investors, will be the new world's tallest tower at ONE MILE in height. The project has already broken ground and should be complete in about 5.5 to 6 years. It is already starting to get publicity but this is nothing to the tons of publicity it will get as the project progresses.

Make no mistake Kingdom Tower will be one of the GREATEST ARCHITECTURAL WONDERS IN WORLD HISTORY! This project should be given a close look by domainers while it is still at the beginning stage. I was right about Reem Island and I think I am right here too.

Here are some articles about Kingdom Tower for you to take a look at:

1000 meters is far short of a mile. It will be 5/8ths of a mile in height; around 3300 feet.

For as tall as the world's tallest skyscrapers are, most are more akin to spires than buildings consisting of a lot of narrow, limited use space. Not going to rehash the age old debate of what defines a skyscraper and what doesn't ... but mention it to point out, for as much shorter the WTC 1 and 2 were, they were massive structures with an amazing amount of usable space ... around 90 or so of the 110 floors had nearly 3/4 of an acre of open, usable floor space each.

Or to put another way, each one of the WTC towers, and similarly with the Sears Tower (renamed Willis Tower), despite being half the height of the current world's tallest building Burj Khalifa, had more usable floor space.

To ramble on a bit further, the ability to construct 1/2 mile+ office buildings has existed for a long time, but such as in the case of the Willis Tower in Chicago, height restrictions not engineering limited some of them. Though that's easy to work around compared to the most challenging part, transporting people to the upper floors necessitating more elevator shafts, emergency exit stairs, etc - as the height increases, usable floor space falls off, and quite dramatically, as one gets into the 100 or so floor range - it's the prime reason most skyscapers stay below that height. For example, despite the higher initial expense, it's more cost effective to build two separate 80 floor towers than one giant 160 floor one.
