Just when POOL couldn't stoop any lower

So there are rumours that POOL reg's certain names that unsuspecting joe soaps have simply 'searched for' using POOL's whois look up.

Probably.

I have to say $60 for a dropped name? thats fair enough if its good! But then you shouldnt be using POOL if it isnt!

And then theres the auction. My personal opinion is that more frequently than not and especially if you are the only backorderer of a tasty name, one of the bidders is probably the pool phantom.

So now pools' registrar (Dodoro) goes pop. Good....! Didnt like their over complex, time consuming (albeit free) service.

But then, as if by magic, our friends at moniker.com come along and save the day.. but hey wait a minute isnt moniker renowned for charging mid $$ to simply reg a .info name.

Now i dunno how anyone else feels about this but if ive just paid $60 to reg a name i dont then expect to get a 'hey welcome to our service, if you could just fill in your credit card details' email from my new registrar.

$6 for URL forwarding.... Say no more...

sorry, no.. The first part to my rant is only based on suspicion and listening to other domainers chat, whereas my real beef is with being asked to pay more money to a registrar, who was chosen by someone else, and where i wasnt informed that there would be extra charges, for what in essence is a very simple service (such as URL forwarding).

Good point, but the reason their service is so efficient is because they maintain a lot of registry connections, so you will never know who the registrar is going to be. That's the small price to pay for almost guaranteed snaps..

ok, fair comment, but how hard would it be for pool to ask at reg where or who you would like to reg your snap. i have domains all over the place because of them and its hard to keep track. My only saving grace is just owning a reseller account so i can transfer to there and then park or whatever. Time consuming to say the least.

So transfer all the snapped domains to your preferred registrar if you don't intend to resell it right away

you dont get anything when you register a name.

you shouldnt expect any services.

moniker is my registrar, along with many other top domain holders.

if you are a bulk purchaser just email their [email protected] and you will not register at any other place.

so dont talk so quick

About all of the drop services use other registrars. Namewinner, Godaddy, Snapnames, Pool, and Enom all use other registrars to some extent.

I usually wait out the 60 day restriction, they transfer the domain to one of my preferred registrars where I know what I'm getting and can keep track of them. With transfer promos going for as low as $6, it's not that big a deal if the name was worth $60+ in the first place. It also gives you two years to attempt sale.

I get everyones point and they are all valid. All im saying is 1. Pool doesnt warn (especially new buyers) that in addition to the $60 they are charging, there will also be additional charges which will be levied by someone else - charges of which no doubt pool gets a cut of. And 2. I guess this kickback is the reason pool dont ask their customers if they have their own registrar.

I take on board name towers point about allowing someone like moniker to manage all your drops, wasnt aware you could do this.
