I have a question. If I wanted say JohnSmith.com but its taken, should i buy JohnSmith.net or John-Smith.com which are bot available.

- if you're going to verbally say the name to people, then johnsmith.net
- if you'll only ever communicate the name online, then john-smith.com

I would personally go with the .net in your case. But if it was me and the .com was not available, .ca all the way.

I would stay away from the hyphenated name and use johnsmith.net instead.

Main domain John-Smith.com

Yeah I would take the .net. Value wise they are probably pretty close though.
