And so, the spirit of Valentines Day creeps across the world, filling everyones head with images of hearts and cherubs.
Firstly, hearts: Why has a bloody organ come to symbolize love and affection? Possibly it is from the ancients, believing that the heart was where the thinking took place (and the brain was simply a cooling system), or maybe there is a deeper reason, going back to those rituals where peoples hearts were ripped out to make the sun rise (though that was mainly in South America).
Now, the cherubs. Babies shooting arrows at people just sounds weird, no matter how nice and fluffy you make it. I sometimes wonder where we get these ideas from...
