I was always taught, Only hunt what your going to eat, And don't kill more than you can eat, Same with fishing.....I live by those words when i hunt, I eat alot venison, rabbit, and ect... Nothing wrong with hunting as long as you hunt during the season that legal for each species, And most importantly, Keep it safe, There are other hunters out there hunting in the same area you may be hunting.

Yes, I agree that there is nothing wrong with hunting in my opinion if you are eating it. I rather eat hunted Kangaroo & Emu meat than Chicken etc. that has been farmed and probably had a terrible life before finally being slaughtered.

By eating hunted Kangaroo meat I am helping to keep the Kangaroo population down that would otherwise be culled anyway while also providing a meal and a substitution for a less humane alternative. I see nothing wrong with this or hunting over populated animals that are eating crops etc. but would not personally set out to kill animals for no purpose other than the hunt.

Hunting for sport is wrong IMO.

Hunting for Eating, Population Control etc. is fine.

I suppose you could make a sport out of Hunting if you ate all your kill or if it was part of population control though :)

What if you dress very sporty while you hunt for population control? Some alien is going to read this and think we have too much time on our hands to discuss this stuff. Philosophizing over the rights of animals and saving the carrots or whatnot. Who knows maybe they will control our population :hehe: .

How can killing animals for fun be ok?

Some of those animals are actually delicious. And it's not like they are waiting in the field at the end of the parking lot.

Folks, just a reminder to "keep it respectful" :tu: .

Hunting for pure sport, yes - that is wrong.
Hunting for sport AND as food - no, I do not think that's wrong.

I'm a hunter, have been for years. I eat what I kill.

I'll take venison over slaughtered and factory/machine processed cow any day.

OK, this could get confusing if you didn't read Neroux's first post, but my comments are directed at him/her anyway, so I guess if anyone wants to follow the conversation, you'll read post #8 before you read this post. Here goes...

neroux said:
Other reasons are usually just excuses.
Are you saying there is no reason to kill an animal for food?

neroux said:
I'm surprised Vick's gang didn't eat them. They did just about everything else they could think of.

neroux said:
It depends, but as you could usually say everyone who loses his life forcibly suffers, I'd tend to say "always".
This isn't a very strong argument against my statement. Logic will tell you that certain animals suffer more than others before and during the process of killing. The meat packing industry far exceeds hunting in both the number of animals killed per year and the amount of suffering these animals endure during their short lives and the process of "converting" them into food. I'll ask you again... do you eat meat of any kind?

neroux said:
That doesnt really matter in this case.
Huh? It doesn't matter what kind of quality of life an animal has before they are killed? I vehemently disagree if this is what you are actually trying to say.

neroux said:
It often is.
BFS! Produce some documentation that supports this statement.

neroux said:
It often is too, but such activities are side effects and do not matter for the victims.
I disagree that such activities are side effects and in the articles I've read, so does law enforcement. Dogfighting and illegal gambling go hand in hand. In any case, activities that perpetuate the mentality that dogfighting is an acceptable pastime do indeed matter for the victims. Vick and his cronies are a perfect example of this kind of mentality.

You know the saying "Trust only those statistics which you have falsified yourself".
Take a count on this thread as a litmus test. How many people who've posted are against hunting?

I'm with you SV! Nothing like a baked tenderloin sitting next to a fat potato. :xf.love:

Yes.

I dont know who they are, but your comparison stated one couldnt eat a dog after having killed him and that is not correct.

So you wouldnt agree with my statement that "everyone who loses his life forcibly suffers"?

I do not.

The quality of life before the actual killing/murder certainly matters as far as the life is concerned before the killing/murder is commited.

Here we are talking however about the action of killing, whose result is always the same for the victim.

I certainly agree with you that torturing someone before killing him is even worse. But you can hardly use the non-torture fact as pro argument.

Can you please provide a source for that.

briman1970 said:

That might be often (not always) true, but none of both depends on the other, so you have to see it as two different things. A murdered dog does not care whether his torturer is involved into illegal activities. The result is the same for him as for someone being hunted.

briman1970 said:

Criminal activities do not perpetuate that. Just because you sell drugs, murder or rape someone or commit another crime doesnt make you a supporter of dog fights.

Sorry, but I wouldnt rely on a sample of 22 people, especially if many of them have a hunting background.

Everyone is biased somehow. Especially people who actively hunt.

Humans have been meat eaters forever. It's perfectly natural and normal. We are carniverous animals, and just as in the natural world, we hunt.

There have been many posts here, that say that hunting for sport is wrong. In my experience, even the quarry killed in the name of 'sport' goes into the food chain.

You are perfectly right (except for the fact that we are not carnivorous at all, but only omnivorous - mostly vegetables with only some meat), but only if you also agree that our society/species is far from civilised, disrespects all other species although it claims this respect and all resources/rights for itself nonetheless and hasnt changed at all since our beginnings.

Then, and only then, you are absolutely right and I would fully agree with you.

Meat is apart of the foodchain, you may not believe that its not and that we should save the animals.
most animals that we eat are treated well and lead a good life then get a easy death.
its apart of life.

I am sorry, but, apart from the fact that such a way to treat other beings is nothing else than barbaric, you are obviously not aware of the actual conditions in these killing centres.
