The TV area of Namepros is quite intense but do we really need the large number of banishments we are seeing.

In the past few weeks I've had dealings with lots of people, mostly through my auctions, but so many of these 'faces' are now no longer able to contribute because they are 'account closed'. If they have done something ridiculous, fine, but it is a little disconcerting when so many people just disappear.

Haven't the feintest why the latest, THEDOTSTOP, is banned but he's been an integral part of this area and a great ambassador for .TV.

Whatever the reason, it appears this area is being massively overmoderated. I even got my first ever 'points' recently for answering a question posed by Equity in a sales thread!

This may seem trivial, but many people use NP to conduct business and a loss of account for something ridiculous, can have a very nasty effect on their financial wellbeing.

Is it time to 'ease up' a little?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
:hi:

When not on lovely Summer Vacation©, and having actively participated in our #1 .TV ccTLD Forum™ for 10+/+ years, I can very easily see how some of the more Rosey type .TV fanatics have now accumulated enough warning points to get themselves either temporarily, or in some cases, permanently banned from Namepros! :imho:

Their spam (including mass "bumps" in multiple sales threads), constant empty "rah rah" posts, personal assaults and swearing, and other one-sided and immature banter always seemed commonplace in there (with little substance insofar as real, meaningful, verifiable "sales" and/or development of .TV's, or its necessary ecosystem); in fact, I recall one or more Pro .TV members actually publicly stating that he/she "wears their warning points/infractions like a badge of honor" and hoping, even daring, to be banned (probably in some misguided effort to promote his/her own new .TV blog or "fan page"), IMHO. :red:

I'm sure in every case that Moderator warnings were not heeded, and if an error was made it was made on the side of leniency; alas, the infractions continued and warning points accumulated ... and this is the result! :yell:

Most importantly ...
Thanks to our #1 Staff™ ... and good riddance to those constantly mocking and breaking the rules ... I look forward to a more mature and balanced conversation here in the #1 .TV Forum going forward and as we begin the merry Holiday Season©! :music: :talk:

Onward and upward,
Jeff B-)

Do we know the reason for TheDotStop's banishment? That would help a lot.

As stated earlier by the mods - individual member cases won't be discussed by NP Staff - so the answer is no, you won't know.

I'm pretty sure it's a temp ban, nothing permanent. It's not like he has committed fraud or stole a ton of domains.

Vito is a good guy and he'll be back, hopefully more cautious next time. Even if I don't agree with everything being said I know rules are there for a reason and they have to be followed.

I like NP, I like a lot of the members here and I hope we all get to be one big happy family in the end :)

Ok I have experience with moderating/administrating considering I have 5 and a half years experience in this field.
For one week I came home from school every day and logged onto a website to find 300 people breaking the same rule every day and with spam bots becoming more and more complex and present as well as fraud becoming a big object in this industry it has left moderators and administrators of websites with no choice but to toughen up.
Until the problem is down to as minimal as possible moderators and administrators must show zero tolerance or this industry will be destroyed and the world will be in serious financial trouble considering this industry is one of the most profitable.
I personally think the guys and girls here are doing a great job administrating and moderating the whole site.

Just 2 days off and bundle of unknown things happen.

Just to add:

I'm having hard times to believe DotStop did anything bad till to be banned, AND HE'S NOT GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY, let made it public and have the mass decided if he's guilty or not.

Allboeing

I think your comment shall be deleted, its very rude and you're such and arrogant dude.
You guys are lucky this thread is still open if you were on one of my websites I would have closed the thread with my first reply to this thread
Do you think all of them here are jokers!!!

Now don't you guys think you lot are being silly, because I am laughing at your immaturity and I am sure plenty of moderators are too.Seriously moderators one of you should close this thread.

Thank God, not every MOD is like you.

Lets get this thread back on Topic ....

YES - Everyone is banned ! <-- Now that was "Snark"

Did NO ONE read anything posted by me or any other mods/staff ? Should we ask permission to delete the 1,000 posts of "Un-locked Cell phones" and "W O W Gold" Spam everyday as well ..... People get real.
I'll say it again - MOST account closures are temporary (2 Weeks usually). I've NEVER Seen one of these threads change that fact - And really don't expect this one will either. But seeing no one has anything better to do ... By all means - Lets make this the longest thread :)

Ooops!
Why Thedotstop's account is closed? It means temporary?

I have to say most people I give points to understand the reason is because they have infact broken a rule or rules and many times I give them chances before hand and OFTEN give out no pointers and polite pms.

Some members continue to break rules,,, why I do not know or understand and then when given points scream abuse :-/

Mods do not make the rules.. I have said before if there are problems with these rules.. request a review from the admins.

I have read comments around here and in different forums from long time members saying they know they break the rules but dont care :|

"Is it time to ease up a little ?"

How far shall we take that ? I can un-ban every shill bidder and thief with the touch of a button. Which rules/laws are the really important ones ?

I don't think snark is very helpful in this situation, particularly coming from a moderator.

I d love to know which one were banned for that reason in order to be careful never dealing with them.

In general its best to know who were banned for fraud and shill bidding.

Can you be more specific on " the large number of banishments?"
I'll check then out cause I must have missed that.

Snark? Have you read the thread?
That's why it's here ;)

No one mentioned in this thread ;) That was just a statement by me ... Like I said - Which are the really important rules/laws ?

As far as individuals with their accounts closed - Most times it is just a temporary "break" after warning points build up.
We are not able to actually say "Why" this one or that one is now closed though ... (In the old days - anyone closed for really bad stuff , we made it as open as possible. Sadly that is no longer an option in this litigious world. Crooks and the like have more "rights" than the rest of us now.)

Maybe due to oversized fonts in sales thread?

Don't know, but this was kind of Vito's style :)

Anyway, without all this Vito's humor and activity the forum is losing - so let's bring him back! :)

An example of what I believe is overmoderation is that I used the developed minisites thread within NP to post Parked.tv sites I had created plus other video portals I had done using Youtube's API function. As I created more sites, I would edit the post and add more (to keep them in one place). True the sites are currently mere video portals (text could be added at a later date of course) but isn't video what engages visitors? Anyway, a mod creates a rule that no more than five sites can be posted in one thread and retroactively deletes all my sites from the thread. What would your reaction be if that were done to you? Really - if the thread is for posting minisites, why can't we do that?

I'll say it over and over and over...

WITHOUT TRANSPARENCY YOU HAVE CONSPIRACY.

I'm close to being banned - got temporarily banned (for having a Black Profile - couldn't reach me - you can just type in my id)... so this *is* an issue for me (though I keep threatening to leave anyway).

There are only about 7-8 people that I really look to see what they have to say... now at least one of them is banned. No reason to me.

I don't understand the legal argument. What person is going to create a case about being banned from a FREE forum under the auspices of a court likely far removed from their local jurisdiction? Errr.

The simple truth is that I think mods have an important job to keep forums as positive as possible; however, the rules need to allow for flexibility that we can see - not just some nebulous statement from mods when we complain.

I do have TWO major problems with the Mod implementation.

.TV does NOT have two ACTIVE permanent MODS listed that are making these decisions.

.TV like .mobi and .us have a group of people that kind of know each other and their styles. You HAVE to be more liberal in the application of the rules (except when it comes to something that violates financial transactions - such as auction rules etc). I can't comment on whether the rules of mods is liberal or not because we don't get to see inside that black box.

You keep saying "it's hard" and "we tell you guys over and over" but we don't have evidence and there is NO OVERSIGHT. Where's the appeal process?

I got one overturned once by ~mm~ which had she not done would have me banned right now. I *know* there's common sense out there.

Truth is that I didn't care for all the mini-sites. You know what? I just ignored it.

The biggest FALLACY that exists is that Namepros wants to be complete professional ALL of the time. I reported that a mod's and other's appraisal of "Great Name" didn't meet the professionalism rules. i got told "I am aware of the rules he asked what our thoughts were".

So now.. Can we accept "Sucks" as a valid appraisal as the corollary of "Great Name"?

Professionalism doesn't exist without relationship building. JimboJimbo is NOT always serious. Come auction time he's very serious.

TheDotStop is not always serious. Come auction time? he's very serious.

Your character helps you get information from peers, it helps you establish relationships.

I even like the Tilting at Windmills posts because they show personality!

TheDotStop contributes MORE to NP than 95% of posters. Hopefully this is temp.

I can tell you that I recently WAS going to be a sponsor of NP.. but events made me change my mind. I know of at least one other person this is true of.

Where's RJ in all of this? Isn't this HIS business?

As for :

"...request a review from the admins..."

Which ones? Most of the time you all circle the wagons and get defensive as evidenced by this thread.

I'm agreeable to a grown up conversation... I have screwed up before...I'll admit it.

Admin are as we speak looking into mods and hopefully will have active ones in the .tv section but if not there are admin and tls that will look after you :)

I would suggest though that you know all the facts first .. ;)

I can not speak of anothers account here and I know you would agree it would be wrong to do so but the members account in question was closed for reasons .. I am sure he would like to explain :)

Not everything here is black and white but so easily made a big deal off..

:)

How? Can we reopen it and ask him?

I don't see why access to posts that were banned would be a bad thing. If they have really inappropriate language/links etc... then just mask those.

Put them public view in a non-google-indexed graveyard. The OP posted them - how/why would they be offended if we saw them?

Just saying. :hearts:

There are no posts to post or links to anything hidden .. Things get taken out of all proportion to much .. Anyways .... Not everthing is black and white.. and this is not a case of overmoderation ;)

constant empty "rah rah" posts, personal assaults and swearing, and other one-sided and immature banter always seemed commonplace in there (with little substance insofar as real, meaningful, verifiable "sales" and/or development of .TV's, or its necessary ecosystem)

That reminds me - I need to check who is in my ignore settings again so I don't get the empy "nah nah" posts, and other one-sided and immature banter about the sideways moving brandable .web with too much iconography :'(:bah::talk::talk:

That way I won't be baited into making posts that get me banned or something.

So Good Point.

But I agree - I think we should have a sticky thread "Verifiable sales and/or development of .TV's and how it affects the ecosystem"... because as far as I can tell.. EVERY sale is a scam, every development is anti-development, until its formally approved by ...
The #1 TV Forum™ ... but this is off topic and I think you should post about that lacking of detail that somewhere else in its own thread..Somewhere like the .TV subforum where I'm sure we can assist you with the use of Whois and various other internet "tools".

I do say though - that I do give you credit for teaching me to dress up a modicum of "on topic" detail with a truck load of personal aggravation. Thanks for that, it's truly appreciated. I can now post without worry.

Now I just need to hear from the representative from Tuvalu and .co to get a rounded view of events.

Lets be honest :) checking your ignore will not show this member as you have not got him on ignore so making such a statement is just for the crowd ....

Where does this tone and obvious flamebaiting, to which we in the dot-tv sub-forum are regularly subjected, fall in terms of the rules?

Calling members fanatics, spammers and liars is alright, as long as it's couched in smiley faces and faux politeness?

Lets be honest checking your ignore will not show this member as you have not got him on ignore so making such a statement is just for the crowd ....

And pardon me, but what is that about, using your mod info to call out a members' ignore settings and accuse him of grandstanding for the crowd? Or is that something available for all to see?
