Does anyone else constantly fill up their desktop with useless small edits to files?

Do you then move all those files into a folder called "New Folder 1" on your desktop?

Do you then fill up your desktop with more files until you again, create a folder named "New Folder 2"?

Do you then proceed to do the exact same thing again and again and again?

Whats wrong with me?!

you are completely normal, all those files are very important, so important that when you finally blow up your pc you will let it sit there without downloading those important files and even start the process all over again on a new pc.

Yeh i thought there was something wrong with me.

Generally anything i put in folders are old edits, but for some reason i feel inclined to keep them because i know in 3 months i'll need some function i wrote in some random file, i'll spend an hour looking for the right one, only to realize i should have just rewritten it.

Organization? Bah! I bring the horizontal filing system idea to my desktop.

That's an impressive desktop...

Time to investigate some form of cvs system

I remove everything I can from the desktop. I hate it.

I own a Mac and I always have a terminal open because I can't find half the icons!

Wow that's a pretty cool idea! I could see that being really confusing to begin with, but getting used to it would be easy. I like the idea of a virtually limitless sized desktop.

It really can be a pain in the ass switching from file to file, project explorers just aren't good enough some of the time.

Rep added, i hope this goes further.

Not me. It makes me sick looking for the files I want to go through.

My desktop is rather the same and I do the same system ...create folder stuff files into etc. I do this with droplists and domains...business etc...can get quite messy at times.

Your not alone ;)

I do the same thing, I just save everything to the desktop, once its full, create a folder everything goes in there and start over

Looked like my desktop lol. Well I had put some of my files in a folder, now only those important files/software are in the desktop. Now I can see clearly my desktop background :D

Ahh a solution.

Add another monitor and you've got TWICE the SPACE! ;)

I think it's going to get confusing as the smaller monitor (displayed on right) is actually sitting on my left.

dude, you still have loads of room on your desktop. my desktop has so many icons that they hang off one side, so I just have to keep on sorting them alphabetically and then reverse-alphabetically so I can access them all. Then I decide i need to clean it up, so I put everything in their proper folders. My mum used to clean up the desktop of her computer and there would be a desktop folder full of crap, then another folder inside called new folder full of crap, etc etc.

I used to do the same exact thing, but now I have opened my eyes to just how ugly it got. I have 3 icons on my desktop now. In fact, I don't even use my desktop...I just organize everything in folders somewhere else and the most common programs I use are either docked or pinned.

I just did a fresh install of windows onto a nice little SSD, so i figure now is a nice to reevaluate my development processes, and maybe move away from the convenience of the desktop...

BUT then i found dexpot! Unlike most other multi-desktop programs dexpot allows for virtual icons on each virtual desktop also :).

I made a post about it here: http://www.namepros.com/free-resources/710824-dexpot-free-windows-multi-desktop-utility.html

I think i'll find this pretty handy in certain situations.
