You know the old question "Is a glass, full of water up to the halfway mark, half full or half empty?" I have been thinking, and I have the answer!

If the glass was originally full of water, yet half of it was removed then the glass is half empty.
If the glass was only filled to that depth of water, then the glass is half full.

Or, as an engineer friend of mine says: "The glass is too large for the amount of water it's holding".

I really don't understand why it can't be both. Does it half to be one or the other?
Half empty and half full are the same thing.
The thought of determining ones positive attitude through use of this question is quite silly. It has been popularized by modern coorporate human resource strategies to manipulate employee attitude. Some people scoop it up.

When I am on a long trip my gas tank says it is half way to empty at the same time
it is half way to full. I could ignore one in favour of the other but the fact is if I keep driving I will get no further whether I believe it is half full or it is half empty.
