Sounds like shill bidding to me.
Even it it's true, big sales in obscure TLD are extremely rare.
It would be unlikely that such a feat can repeat again.

Big sales in obscure extensions happen now and then, but it is closer to a lottery ticket than a business model to deal in those type of domains.

Out of several thousand .com names in my company portfolio, I have two ".io" domains:

1. business
   
   [*]refinance

All things considered, minimal risk (IMHO), and I like these a lot better than any lotto ticket I might buy.

Well, Business is one of the top 5-10 possible keywords so there is little risk on that one.

But still a $X,XXX sale for a .IO is rare, nevermind $20K+
Many amazing keywords sell in the low $XXX - Mid $XXX range.

I don't know... I hope so, because I have Forex.io and if this sale is confirmed, it may add some value.
