Just grabbed Smellophone.com
There is a new type of technology being released that "saves" and releases odours and it has been dubbed the "Smellophone"

could become massive if it is released
was it a good grab?

i got the mag free through uni so i knew about it before but it says Motorola and Samsung are releasing a phone like this

I can't see them building a brand on the term smellophone - linguistically it's too close to smelly. It seems that others are using that term to refer to the phone and not the companies themselves.

Also, if they do build a brand on that term they'll have it trademarked and leave you in a sticky position.

thanks for your view - i know they are not going to create "smellophone" as there brand name but it is a generic term of the technology (e.g. if i had mobilephone.com, a company like Motorola are not going to brand there new phone as the "Motorola Mobile Phone" but something like "Motorola N180" or something along those lines). i have checked the uspto.gov site and there is no trademark for the term

The name can have two uses and both are being looked into

- Mobile that emits odours
- Smell recording device that can be "played back"

Yeah, I saw this coming a couple of months ago and snagged a few domains like phonescents, digitalodors, digitalsmells, digitalaromas, etc. Hope it works, and they come knocking on both our doors with bags of money.

I read this too awhile back and it reminded me of earlier musings into this foray... eg... the motion pictures that had 'smell' attached to them. Then there was 'the tingler' with Vincent Price marketed around 'sensations'...

How many of us still have a scratch'n sniff t-shirt? Whilst I was attached to mine (at the time) - in a more contemporary sense though...I think such products have no value beyond their product launches. I think this will just fade away (only my personal opinion) - can't see ppl wanting it, let alone prepared to part with money for it - the phone product that is...

I agree the phone part of this is probably destined to failure (unless it transfers pheromones or something), but the digital transfer of aromas has a huge future....everything from keeping houses and businesses smelling fresh to casinos piping in the most conducive smells for gambling.
