Interested in selling your brandables at Brandroot?

I receive a lot of messages from people interested in selling their brandable domains at Brandroot. I would like to address that here.

As you will find on our home page, we are currently working on developing domainer and logo accounts so you are able to submit your names and apply to be one of our logo designers. We do not foresee this being complete until at least Jan or Feb, 2014. If you are interested please PM me your email address so I can add you to the mailing list that will be sent out when these features are launched.

The following are some details on how the system will work when it is first introduced. Our site will operate very similar to BrandBucket (initially), for those who have experience there. Any of these features and pricing may be subject to change as we learn and adapt according to the feedback we receive from you and the results of the system:

Listing
Due to the expected influx of name submissions, each new domain owner account holder will be allowed to submit up to 10 names per 24 hour period. This will allow all domain owners an equal waiting period. The number of daily name submissions can increase or decrease according the quality of names you are submitting to Brandroot. You will be given a domain score which will determine this number. (Domain score will likely be launched a couple of months after initial launch of domainer accounts.) In this way we are awarding good submitters and encouraging the bad ones to take a second look at what they are submitting. Your domain score can get as low as allowing you to only submit 1 domain per day and as high as 20.

All names that are accepted will undergo a multi-step process before final publication. These are:

• Pending Review Queue - Once you submit your names for review you will be able to see how many domains are ahead of yours pending review. This way you can visit back whenever you want to see how close your name is to being accepted or denied on Brandroot.
• Pending Setup - Submitting your name for approval and then adding all necessary details including description, price and keywords, etc.
• Verification - To verify your ownership of the domain name you will be required to forward your domain to the appropriate URL, which will be in the format of http://www.brandroot.com/names/YourDomain
• Pending Payment - See pricing details below for more details.
• Processing Logo - This is where your logo will be added by you or where a logo will be created for you by one of our accepted logo designers.
• Added to Listing Queue - Once all the above steps are complete you will be able to see where your name stand in the listing queue, so there is not guessing how long it will take to see your domain live on the site. You may be listed right away for most listings but in the case of a backlog in certain featured spots, you will see how many names are ahead of yours before yours is listed.

Pricing

• Free - For any domain owner who is also approved to hold a logo designer account, the basic setup fee is free. We like to pamper our logo designers. Without a logo, your name won't get listed. We offer free listings for logo designers to show our appreciation for them. A logo designer may spend time and their skills designing your logo and could never see any award (if the name doesn't sell), and even then the award is likely to be only $100, the lowest award option.
• $10 - For any domain owner who requires a logo design there will be a $10 setup fee. The owner will also be required to select a logo award ($100-$500) that will be deducted from the amount that is released to the domain owner upon successful sale of the domain. Why do we charge $10? Brandroot is not in a hurry to take on hundreds, if not thousands, of outside domain listings. We also have a very large inventory we need to sell, so we only seek to take on serious domainers who realize the value of service we offer. If you are not a logo designer, we will also have to take the money out of our pockets to pay in-house designers to design your logo (initially). This is not free. You may say that the logo award should cover this, however, as you may know, domains can sit for a very long time before ever being sold, if they ever are. Additionally, we work very hard and have a large marketing budget to get end-users attracted to your names. Brandroot is not a dormant marketplace. It is very much alive and constantly seeking to raise awareness. This is not free. You may say that the consignment fee should cover this, and as said before, some domains may never get sold. The consignment fee is used to cover many other expenses as well. It is a common and essential part of keeping Brandroot afloat. The consignment fee will likely decrease over time.
• Featured - Domain owners will also have the option to select and purchase premium listings on Brandroot, including the homepage spotlight location, the homepage Featured section and featured in specified categories. (prices will vary.)
• Other - There will also be options in the future to add other miner and larger details to your listings so they stand out on Brandroot. We plan to launch a way for domainers to purchase Name Reviews, a lengthy, keyword-rich description of your name that explains the benefits and assets of the name. Audio Pronunciations is also a planned featured, where visitors can click an audio preview button to hear the pronunciation of the name. (We get many quires from Brandroot about how a name is pronounced, regardless how straightforward it may be. :/)
• Consignment - Additionally, Brandroot will collect a 30% consignment fee on all domain sales.
