I think the next best is .org

.org .us

:imho: it depends on what you are doing.
For informational sites - .info
For US specific - .us
For commercial - .biz

In addition to the above I have sites developed or under development using .ws, .cc and .co.in.

There is no doubt that .com makes things much easier but...

.Info if it fits the extension.

.US is going to be the next big one in my opinion. They already have the top 3 sales for all new TLD's this year. VOIP.us - $25,000, Foods.us - $20,000 and one that isn't listed, Business.us just sold a couple of weeks ago for somewhere near $50,000.
There are still a lot of good ones out there too. Definitely investment names.

In my opinion: .info, when appropriate.
Never had much of a liking for .org, it implies you're an organisation...
.us if it's specifically targetted at americans.

Yeh, Personally myself I like .info and .com over all other domain extensions

the current fashion seems to be to talk down .org, but all things being equal and given a choice I would register .org and not bother with the .info

yeah .org makes it sound like your some non-profit company...but i think my next domain that i buy will be.us if the .com isn't available

same with me, .org then .us

It depends on the name and its uses...but basically I'd choose .co.uk > .us > .info (.org can be a great extension for the right name)

I've got .com, .net, .org, .biz and a .com.au (and some .info's but they were given to me by my registrar).

It would all depend on what you plan to do with it, and what it means to you and the end user.

I have a .org that I wouldn't trade for the .com because of the connotations the .org has for it, in this particular (and specific) case.

Actually bucking the trend here, if i cant get .com or .net, i like .CC or .TV - i find they are very easy extensions to build into branding, the CC from a graphical nature and the fact its two-of-the-same and rolls of the tongue nicely, and the .TV for obvious reasons.

I find people remember those better than .info, .name, .ws etc because they are easy to build into the brand name. But from a resale perspective, then it has to be .com or .net unless the keyword is a market in itself (sex, casino, gambling, porn, travel, hotels etc).

Well it all depends on how you are going to use it. I would suggest .info, .biz, .ws
