if you have the .net, .biz, whatever, it's a good marketing tactic to say 'hey, the .com sold for 80 billion dollars, this is worth something too'.
in my experience, even if people have a little voice in the back of their heads that says 'i dunno, me(substitute your name here), this domain isn't the .com, it may not have value', there's this other, more impulsive and thus persuasive voice that says "hey, the .com sold for 80 billion! the .net must be worth at least something..."
and then you buy it. and can't resell it. and then you email the person who bought the .com and say 'hey, you need this .net also!" and then they say either
1) "what??? i bought the .com for 80 billion dollars! i can't afford to pay for a sandbox for my kid, let alone to buy a .net"
2) "dude, that's trademarked, i'm suing you'
3) <absolutely nothing> *crickets*
4) hmm, ok, i'll give you 20 bucks.
Once again this is just in my experience... it goes both ways. Either it's worthless or it's worthless but the .com sold for a bunch so people are influenced by that and purchase it.
I hope this post has changed your life.
Cheeeeers,
John
