Though China is actually 中国 not 中华, nonetheless, great name.
Thanks for sharing. :tu:
vaunter said:For doing this you must consider that you are duplicating the risk (first .TV, second IDN) betting on a name that is not going to get natural traffic in a few years because of the IDN and because of the extension.
The succes will depend of the succes of two worlds: IDN and .TVs

No offense. In China, and in most of the east-asian countries, most of the people frequently use IDN names than ASCII names.
2 Korean IDNs recently sold for $78K.

Investing in IDNs are far better than investing in 2 or 3 word ASCII .TV names, again IMHO.
FYI: All my casino.TV names (IDNs) receive 300 - 400 uniques a day, and the Japanese IDN name casino.TV is getting 92% CTR. :hehe:

CarryOn said:I think selective IDNs have real potential. I especially like IDN GEOs (country or the largest local cities). Of course, being selective is even more important than ascii .tv It helps that keyword IDNs are standard reg fee – so minimal risk for big upside.
1. non-english speakers think, write, read, AND search in their own language. No surprise when you think about it. But the search comparison is astonishing – (see below)
2. 80% of the world doesn’t speak English
3. One of the main reasons holding back IDNs today is the fact that Microsoft has not rolled out autoupdate support for IE7 in many non-english speaking markets (e.g. Japan, etc.). Since IE is the default browser, until most users upgrade to IE7 they can’t use native IDNs (only the cryptic PUNY code)
4. Most of the .com and .net versions of the key GEO IDNs were registered in 2000 the moment they first became available for reg.
Personally, my favorite language for IDN .tv is Japanese – partly because I lived/worked there so have some understanding of the language, customs, market, etc., but also because it’s the 2nd largest economy in the world (for now) with the 2nd largest online advertising market after the US, with a concentrated, wealthy population, and a reasonable amount of developed .tv sites.
Here are some examples of the value of IDNs
Kyoto vs 京都
Jap OVT (京都 ) 355,000/month
Jap OVT (Kyoto) 7,000/month
US OVT (Kyoto) 23,000/month.
So the IDN kanji version of Kyoto is searched for 50 times the Ascii version in Japan and 15 times US OVT. If you wanted to target the 1.5 million people living in Kyoto and the 40+ million Japanese who visit every year – which is a better domain? Japanese think in Japanese. Also, many of the big Japanese city names (in English) are Premium Names even further skewing the risk/reward in favour of the IDN version of the city name. The other 10 largest cities in Japan return at least the same type of results – in some cases more dramatically if they are not internationally known cities such as Kyoto.
One more example:
Hawaii vs ハワイ (this is the katakana version of Hawaii – its not even a native word in Japanese to highlight the value of local language)
Jap OVT (ハワイ ) 250,000/month
Jap OVT (Hawaii) 27,000/month
US OVT (Hawaii) 389,000/month.
So Japanese search for their own language version of Hawaii almost 10 times more often than the English version – and shockingly with a population a bit more than 1/3 of the USA search for “ハワイ” 65% of what the US searches for “Hawaii”
IMO, selective IDNs are prime domain real estate for targeting local populations. They have serious value if developed, and offer low cost entry (this door is rapidly closing) for keywords that would cost xxxx to xx,xxx in ascii.
My IDNs don’t have the kind of traffic Delicious gets (Del, those are stunning numbers even for ascii .tvs, Congrats!) but I believe that patience will be rewarded for these keyword IDNs.
You can take advantage of dynadot's new domain cancel policy. Reg a domain; ask for appraisal here or at idnforums; if it's a wrong word, delete it within a week and get refunds.htmlindex said:Which site(s) do you use to translate English words to IDNs? I'm thinking about getting into them but don't want to make mistakes registering the wrong ones & wasting money on it!
Also, what lauguages would you guys recommend sticking to if getting into IDNs?

Thanks FKA, yea, once you look at the numbers a bell goes off. If you want to reach a local population online (whether you're a "local" or not) keyword IDNs will ultimately be the best path. Glad to hear your IDN ppc is growing - and its barely the first round for IDNs. I've mainly focused on IDN .tvs since I was late to the game and wanted high quality keywords which would be impossible or expensive to obtain in .com or .net or even reserved names in the local extension. Personally I think IDN .tv works well for its global recognition and can compete with .com or the local country extension.Fka200 said:Extremely well said, CarryOn. People just started realizing this. I did the same OVT comparison a year ago and that's when it hit me... Never looked back and PPC is just starting to actually really surprise me.
As for IDN.tv, I think have like 4. 2 Geo Countries, 1 Cartoon Themed, and another... Sports.TV in Arabic.

Sorry mate,
I missed your question.
BTW, I suggest you to avoid system generated translations whether it is Babel Fish or Google. I'm sure none of the automated translation services provide you a 100% error-free/original translation. Although Dynadot and Moniker offer domain tasting, I don't recommend.
If you have friends in the east-asian countries, ask them the exact translation. You can find native speakers at ICQ chatrooms and Yahoo! chatrooms.
Hope this would help.![]()
