i am thinking about purchasing energy-independence.com in a private sale, and i have some legal concerns that you guys might be able to give insight on.

energyindependence.com
energyindependence.net
energy-independence.net

are all taken. that, and there are a plethora of copyrighted and trademarked company names that have "energy-independence" in them. after i develop a kick-ass website, am i going to be faced with any legal issues?

Well none of the others are developed so they would have much more problems then you would with a developed site.
