I Need Your Input

Me and my cousin are working on our own forum software! We need your input of features, ideas, etc. We have a name and all already, so we don't need input there

We need features like pre built mods into the software, etc.

try to keep a clean and user-friendly layout and organization. also try to keep it easy to modify the look and were modules can be placed (i.e., easily move login form around, etc).

I'd go to the various boards (phpBB, vB, etc) sites and look at their most popular mods to get some ideas.

Other than that, keep it simple.

We want something nice, not as simple as phpBB, and not as advanced as vBulletin. We will also be making loads of pre made templates, some free, some paid, to download. We are looking to make it something along the liness of AEF (anelectron.com) with more features. We will also be doing something in the ACP where it is one click install mods, here are a few we were thinking:

Store
Rep

And a few of the bigger ones. But all the input we get, the better it will be.

for me the better forum software that's out there is vb, the proof here is very obvious as namepros is using it as forum software, reliable and robust.

:imho: if you will need to create another one, you need to do better than vb. or seems to me like all those are add-ons you have mentioned.

my suggestion, try your hands first on creating a few useful mod/add-ons for vb then go from there.

I would have to second both weblord and monaco. You say you want to keep it "simple", in between phpBB/vBulletin is a very small gap if at all. Both phpBB and vBulletin are very advanced. Why phpBB is losing its ground currently, I'm not sure, but I used to work with phpBB and vBulletin and would say both are about on the same level when it comes to features. If its features your missing in either, there has to be an addon for it somewhere.

If you still plan on following through with this, you and your cousin are gonna have ALOT of work to do to and should use phpBB/vBulletin and your benchmarks/refernces. Both are great scripts that can offer you a template of what a good forum script would be.

One of the most sought after addons is Paypal implementation for private forum access. If you do that, you have a winner (assuming your forum is free, of course, VB has it built already)
