I'm looking for a bulk nameserver check tool, a tool that allows me to run a list of domains and that returns what nameservers are assigned to each domain.

Your suggestions are much appreciated!

You would need access to the zone files for this, unless you wanted to pay somebody to do it for you. ;) hint hint :)

So if one does have access to the zone files, other than using a database query tool, any ideas?

Writing a PHP script using a PEAR module (Net_DNS) to perform DNS queries on a list of domains is the solution I can think of now.

Designed for BULK Scanning: Domain Research Tool was created to scan domains in bulk. This means that it can handle lists of up to 500,000 domains per scan cycle. Unlike competing products, D.R.T. Can easily load and manipulate extremely large lists and even comes with full support for loading, filtering and analyzing zone files.

just get yourself to a unix/linux command line and type

host -t NS domain.com

then load up a script to iterate through your list and be sure to include "sleep 5" on every loop , or you are sure to hack someone off at your ISP and then go to bed

if you add >> file.out to the above command it will save your results

golden rule - if you run any WAN network scripts you better take responsibility for what you do as most services WHOIS etc. have rules for automated enquiries - be responsible!!!

Sounds a bit too complicated, i really have no idea where to begin reading your post :)

sorry it is not so hard really - you can do it from windows msdos but not so nice to write loops and stuff

if you have linux or Mac OSX (which is UNIX) the above will work just open terminal and type this without quotes:

host -t ns ebay.com

if you are on NT/XP/2000 then from the command prompt enter:

nslookup -type=NS ebay.com

i am not an MSDOS fan so cannot advise on putting this into a loop for a list but it is possible fairly simply i think

check http://www.computerhope.com/nslookup.htm

also search G for "msdos batch processing"

just for the record , as it probably does not suit your needs exactly, you can also do this from a PC:

for Mac OSX (PC?) the linux commands are as above but from windows xp/2000/nt there is a command called nslookup on the command console

just type:

nslookup -type=NS domain.com

will output what you need and then you (simply) have to set up a batch file to loop through your list - don;t forget to put in a sleep/pause command and test it on 20 or so before unleashing it

paul

also ... (i will shut up after this) .. if you just want to check if names are registered then just use a bulk reg form on (hopefully) a trustworthy website

like the godaddy bulk checker where you can check 500 at a time

i have a wild west domains reseller account so I use my own [resist temptation to plug my site]

although the correct way is to sign up for a domain availablility checker that is designed to do just that - I presume enom etc offer one - I use joker.com

or register yourself with ICANN ...

cheers

Thanks Paul, that command for XP worked, now i will have to find out how to set up that "batch" file and "loop" thing you mentioned.

If i don't find a easier way to do it ;)

I've found something that solved my problem, for others that need to lookup their nameserver settings for their domains in a automated fashion as well:
