Oh wow do I love .fm from the perspective of someone who has the intention of developing a music website. Almost any good word you want is available, it's so nice.

Im about to buy 3 or so dot fms. Granted $70 at godaddy is a lot, but theres so many good ones still out there for the taking, that it would be a shame not to buy up a couple. I have one in mind to develop, and the other 2 will most likely just be holdings in case .fm decides to take off.

Thoughts?

Thinking out loud...

Do other countries use the AM/FM designations for radio? Here in America we are accustomed to it, but I'm curious if anyone outside the US would understand the relevance and connection?

In India we have AM/FM too, FM being more popular.

AM and FM are the actual technical terms for it. This technology is the basis of radio. AM frequency was originally opened to the public for their broadcasting (but the quality of the sound is lower). FM frequency was made commercial. In anglosaxon countries, such as England and the United States, Commercial entities have tried to fade out public broadcasting (this is a little addressed issue, as in these countries corporate profits are seen as having priority over free speech.. see legal cases against Clear Channel, etc.). I believe that in France, the terms "AM" and "FM" are also used.

Federated states of Micronesia , a Tiny island nation iin the Pacific
and BTW No it isn't the same as FIJI

And in answer to -db-
of course everyone else in the world uses AM/FM for radio broadcasting
another term also used is SW for ShortWave

And in answer to Zachbb.
The terms AM and FM are the Methods of Modulating the Radio Frequency Carrier Signal with the audio Signal . It is also (INCORRECTLY) used as a generic term for the frequency bands used for Broadcasting.
You can actually have AM or FM signals on any Radio frequency.

here in UK, FM is popular but AMs generally more for sports radio.. o and virgin radio.

Also, whenever I go abroad in europe they use AM/FM, so yeah I'm pretty sure it's worldwide. Although digital is coming in now.
