Hey guys I got a computer or internet problem and I dont have a clue what the problem is.

Something happened overnight when I got up this morning both my computers were restarted and the internet was'nt working on either so I turned off my computers and reset my modem which I have to do from time to time mostly for my laptop but it usually works.

My laptop which has a wireless connection is working fine but my desktop is acting strange. It connects to the internet but the internet wont work.

When I use the internet ie or firefox in the status bar it says website found waiting for reply and then nothing happens I've waited a half hour and the page wont load.

So do you think this is a problem with my computer or an internet problem thats out of my controll

Thanks

What is your current ip address of you pc? Is it along the same ip range as your laptop? If you go to your Start Button and click run, type in CMD. When the dos prompt pops up type in "ipconfig." Let us know what your ip address is. It could be that your pc hasn't picked up an ip address from your router if its a 169.x.x.x address.

If you were to go to Start>Programs>Accessories you should see Command Prompt that you can run. From there just type in ipconfig and see what ip you get. You might find Command Prompt under Start>Programs depending on what version of Windows you have.

Double check Windows updates, I've had this happen explicitly a couple of times now and there was an update the other day. That would explain your computer restarting.

If that's not the case, let me know as much about your environment as possible (and reasonable).

PS: If you're running Vista, run CMD as Administrator to mess with ipconfig.

so you are infected by spyware.. (as far as I know)...

Download software like Search and destroy or Norton Antivirus Trial.. and scan ur computer..

After that you need to manually turn on the services..
Go to Start > run > services.msc and Turn on the DHCP client.

You may need to reset your IE browser....

It should work....
