Your input, please!

I recently picked up i-gaming.com, which I suspect could be worth quite a bit to the right buyer, based on various "e-" and "i-" domain sales that pop up every month or two, and knowing how big online gaming is.

The original owner contacted me last week...he apparently dropped it accidentally and would like to buy it back, but can only go to $500 on it.

Am I right in thinking that this is much more valuable than that? While I feel a bit bad for him, I also don't want to give away something that could be very profitable later on. I intend to put up a videogame and accessories store on it sometime soon...

Thanks in advance!

Personally to an end user I think it could go for low $x,xxx to $5,000

Hello...

If you think about create your own website or store, i think you should refuse and start work on that, but if you are thinking about selling that. Try to push a little up the price for something like 600$ if it possible and voilรก 673$ of profit in a few days. But if you feel that you can get more, try to sell for more!

Hyphen is an issue. No matter how good a domain name is the value of hyphenated names is significantly reduced. There are some exceptions though such as hotel-reservation etc. I donโ€™t think it would fetch more than $1k elsewhere and therefore $500 is an offer that should pave the way to negotiation.

It's true that some "i" and "e" names are successful, but they are the exception, not the rule, and they don't generally have a hyphen. That's a double whammy, and it's a very tough combination to overcome. Ask yourself this question -- How many other sites or 'brands' can you think of with similar names?

I would accept the guy's $500 offer and move on. Going from a $8 registration fee to $500 is a mighty nice profit.

Good luck.

$500 is a very solid offer I would agree, and I also agree with Db, you bought a little site for $8 and went to $500 a few days later, for someone else that would be an excellent weeks work and if you reinvest you will be able to get 2 sites built and increase your revenue over time.

If it is the original owner I would give it him back for that price, but also find out what he has in the future he is looking to drop...who knows, you may get first dibbs on a diamond :)

Yes see what he plans on dropping accidentally in the future.
I own some edomains and idomains with no hyphen and for 88 bucks invested I would be cashing in and reinvesting in something else.

All domains on sale taking offers over 12.00

There is a guy over in the "domains wanted" section that is looking for a domain for games.
Might check with him if he was interested.

Just as an update to this:

I ended up convincing the offering party that I would accept a $650 offer via Sedo, with the understanding that I would send it to auction after that. He agreed, and it ended up being bid up to $1300 -- the winner was not the original offer-maker.

The transaction was completed and payment received from Sedo last week. Glad I didn't just accept the original offer...

unbelievable! :-O for a hyphenated name, where the i- just
has nothing to do with the rest of the domain. Good Job!

Very nice flip!

I think the i-generics are a nice example of hyphens that work.

I agree...as well as "e-generics." I've been focusing on both for the past year or so and this is my second sale of one in the low $x,xxx range.
