Hi all

If a hyphen is generally used when googleing a keyword ie there are more exact searches with the hyphen than without is it better to buy the domain with the hyphen?

Thanks

sometimes hyphens are used, but i'd try to get both

example, some words/phrases use hyphens regularly in print, like "lead-free" "on-air", etc.

on occassion i've regged typos, with hyphens.... and still received some traffic

:)

On what situation, type-in traffic from hyphen domains?

I can't believe..

People don't want to type hyphens in browsers..

I have personally never typed a hyphen in a URL, unless I already knew before hand that was the actual address.

Bu hyphen I think the OP refers to word separators, which is what hyphens are, and why they can be good for SEO.

But there are some names which are suitable with hyphens like

pdf-doc

for

pdf2doc
pdftodoc

My example was for glasses
When people search for their glasses they would type glasses -2 which gets 135000 exact searchers where as glasses2 gets much less

Just curious really whether in that situation the hyphen would be better glasses-2.com being better than glasses2.com?

That's a flawed example.

you can "-" anything with your word and get the same result.

Your 135K is for glasses

Hyphens is not a good option to use in domain name because no one be type domain name with hyphens unless they already knew or remember of the name. So, avoid hyphens in your domain name and make it short and catchy to users.

a domain with a hyphen is of lower quality.

if a domain with a hyphen, also gets traffic and earns revenue,

is it lower quality than a domain with no hyphens, no traffic and no revenue?

I dont mind on occasion grabbing a hyphenated domain name. Some look better with the hyphen as well. I see lots of ads with hyphenated names. More advrtising would be needed. Which is better GeoThermal.ext or Geo-Thermal.ext
?

Hyphen is not matter in google, example: Google boot is reading "job site" but "jobsite' and "job-site" is not matter! 90% domainer like to buy without Hyphen.

Yes, in this case, it would be good for SEO.

Hi, i saw many domains sold for so huge price with hyphen keyword on sedo, but 95% domainer like without hyphen domains. My experience with this example: The Google boot reading the keyword "job site" but not reading (-) hyphen, think keywords "job site" and "job-site" are same performing top 1 ranking in any search engines. Personally i ignore hyphen domaining... Good luck..

I agree, "-" has SEO value, there is no doubt to it, I would say..

I am pretty sure searching word1-word2 in google is equivalent to searching "word1 word2" (exact search with quotes), for which word1word2.com domain will do just fine.

word1-word2.com kind of domains will be always be considered as crappy copycats of word1word2.com kind of domains.
