Hello I know that a hyphen dot domain name is good for higher ranking in a search engine, my question to you guys is do any companies buy hyphen domain names to get a high search ranking?

Actually dashes only help SE's understand the keywords in the domain. All SE's will try to guess the keywords in your domain whether it has dashes or not, so having dashes in the domain will not give you "higher ranking" just because the name looks more readable to you.

As to selling a dashed domain; most people prefer hyphen-free names, especially if it's a company name because it's easier to promote (vocally).

I saw a couple of domain name with hyphen that redirect it to the company website, but not the company name.

Having a relevant keyword in the domain name is of course better than a brand name (company name). But SE's don't give any preference to keyword1-keyword2.com over keyword1keyword2.com :imho:

I have a couple hyphen names.
C-fb.com for college football
Va-t.com for Value Added Tax
4-02.com for April 2
18-7.com for the Homicide nickname
and 3-01.com just Becuase

Im going to sit on these names, But I expect to sell them eventually. So yes a company would buy them.

I've noticed some hyphenated-domains in .DE are regged and non hyphen are not.

I have to disagree - I have seen several examples lately on Google that say otherwise. I think they are giving keyword1-keyword2.com names higher results than keyword1keyword2.com Probably because they guess the keywords wrong most of the time.

Germans seem to like their hyphens for some reason, don't know why though!

keyword1-keyword2.com can get higher ranking than keyword1keyword2.com but NOT because of the dash. There are 10's of other factors that affect SE ranking. :imho:

some companies actually buy the hypen domain name because the "no hypen domain" is taken by some cybersquatters who refuse to sell or charge a very high price for it.
