Hey, just tough I let you know, so you don't have to disappoint potential buyer, or pay extra out of your pocket later on..

UK domains can only and successfully be transferred via Nominet.org.uk (UK domain name governing body), and transfer costs £12..

Otherwise, even if you do manage to push it over for free, new owner won't be able to change any of ownership details and technically domain will still be yours.

That is not true.
You can ask your current registrar to do a IPS Tag change and then you can update the owner details in the nominet login site free of charge by requesting a free of charge login to your email address.

You mistaken, two different extensions here, info you mentioned is only applicable for .uk (new extension), not for .co.uk which is currently by far the most popular and widely recognized UK code + is one that domain for sale has ;)

The method I have mentioned is for co.uk, org.uk, me.uk and .uk.

I have sold and bought many of the aforementioned and no problems thus far.

Seller changes the email address to the buyers email address, buyer goes to nominet login page, enters the email address, an automatic password is emailed by nominet to the buyers email address = free of charge!

idude.info is correct "Seller changes the email address to the buyers email address, buyer goes to nominet login page, enters the email address, an automatic password is emailed by nominet to the buyers email address = free of charge!"

Ok that's not official or how it's should work, but suppose you can get around it like that..

Point I am getting at is, if sellers plans to have more than one UK domain he will need as many Nominet accounts as UK domains!

Also I am not sure if one is allowed to have more then one account there (officially)

Plus from experience, selling and buying UK domains (which always been transferred via Nominet for transfer fee) If seller would explain to me, that the transfer will work as you had explained here, I would personally drop the deal as I would be worried that seller can file the claim with Nominet as domain been stolen from their account (some body else has had access) and transfer it out.

Anyway good luck guys :)

@Miks With respect, you are incorrect.
You would only need to have one Nominet account, please read once again.
"Seller changes the email address to the buyers email address, buyer goes to nominet login page, enters the email address, an automatic password is emailed by nominet to the buyers email address = free of charge!"

As an example, If I sold the domain to you, you then inform me your email address, I will update the domain's registrant email to your email, at that point the domain is in your Nominet account.

Thanks.

Hi, Congratulations on offer received ;)

I am not saying your method is wrong and I fully understood what you saying. Yes it does work, but in this way you are risking of domain being suspended somewhere along the way as technically that is breach of Nominet terms. Not saying it will happen, but if it does? Just wanted to be helpful and explain it can be risk that buyer comes back at later stage and explains that domain name now been suspended and may demand full refund, because you as the buyer have failed to comply with Nominet terms. That's all..

Also most Domainers, unless they are end users and will ever need one domain name will have domain portfolio, were all UK domains will be hosted in one Nominet account like I have (100 +), so initiating transfer in way that you mentioned would again potentially be risk to have one of, or both accounts suspended.

It's a bit or risk and all I am trying to say you potentially may lose huge chunk of experienced UK domainers (potential buyers), because they know all the do's and don'ts.

It's worth to consider signing up for AcornDomains UK domain forum too, if you aren't member there already. Honestly along with NamePros great place to learn a lot!

@dnsmanager1, you cannot auction your domain on multiple websites simultaneously. Seeing as you have already received a bid elsewhere, I am closing this thread. Had you received any bids here, we would have expected you to follow through with the sale, whether or not they were over $350.
