If you want [email protected] on Name.com, you have to activate Google Apps which modifies your nameserver to NS1.name.com and NS2.name.com

For parking on sedo or to host the domain somewhere, your nameserver must be modified to their name server.

So I think it is not possible to have both hosting and google apps, as it requires two different nameserver. :imho:

I think almost all hosting provides you [email protected] when you host with them.

Good Luck!

It is very straightforward, there is an option to activate Google Apps whenever you sign up with Name.com and have succesfully registered your domain. I am a rookie when it comes to technical stuff, and even I managed to succesfully set up my mailbox. Name.com is great, I am very satisfied with their user friendlyness :) Pricing is OK as well for gTLDs , only ccTLDs seem a bit expensive but that is usually the case with big registrars whose main target are people buying gTLDs.

You need to set A Record (IP) to your hosting or parking service.

yes, you can use email services from a hosting company too.

You can either put the nameservers to your host and host your site there and you email there or you can use Google Apps at name.com which will keep name.com nameservers but you can then use an A record (I think it was A record, maybe CNAME?) to point your domain to your host where your site is. Another option is to put your hosts nameservers and then manually set up google aps from your host.

Why not use MX servers, keep the page where it's parked / located, and then route the mail to a different server? Isn't there a pretty straight forward way to do that?

yes, thats what I meant with the "set up google apps manually", you have to set up MX servers for it. This is what name.com does automatically when you activate google apps except your nameservers are name.com's nameservers which isnt always ideal.

Why make it so difficult to set up the whole thing yourself when name.com has a very easy option to create a Google Apps webmail with one mouseclick? Name.com sets it up for you then, including a URL mail.domain.com - no need to do it yourself, it all goes fully automatically. Why bother doing it yourself when you can let your registrar do it for you?

Simple. Not everyone uses name.com. Like me for example, I have domains scattered from Fab to GD to Name. :lala:

Because you need to use name.com's nameservers and then if you want to host a site you have to use an A record to point to your host which is not recommended for cpanel even though it will work but some features wont. Easiest is to not use google apps at all and just use email through cpanel.
