Please, b4 anybody starts telling me that it is virtually impossible and that there are many ways to view the source code if you want to...

I just don´t know how to disable this generally and am just curious. Would be very much appreciated if someone could tell me, please.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Of course it is virtually impossible :D

But anyway, you could use javascript code to disable right click. Or you could use a software to encrypt html code like htmlguardian (or something like that...). I'd never use that, but I guess they encrypt html code with some javascript routines and hex code... View source is not disabled but it's more harder to read when encrypted.

You posted this in the Search Engine forums. Are you interested in doing this for search engine optimization? Then you're probably seeking to do "cloaking". Cloaking is considered a form of "black hat" SEO and can get you banned from the SE's though.

If you just looking for general ways to protect your source code from the average web surfer, we had a fun discussion about this a couple of years ago,

phpBB disable the source code on some pages.
There is more to the 'Hacking attempt' page than we can see.
As phpBB is free there must be a way to do it with php / the overused JavaScript.

$ chmod 000 filetoprotect.html

lol -> theparrot...

You can't disable the source from coming down if you want people to view it. You can use javascript (possibly) and stop them from using the normal routines, but a simple wget from the command line would suck your page down in all it's beauty.

Of course, that's if we're talking simple HTML/css/yada... If it's server side source your talking about, well, that's a different story.

there is no need to hide source code, that fact along with you can't hide it unless you block the visitors from your site.

You can decrypt it in JavaScript somehow, but nothing can protect it if a real person is working with it. Even spam machines brake some of the JAVA protection for e-mail addresses :(

Probably the wrong forum to post this in, anyhow, I was really just interested in how to stop people right clicking and viewing the source code.
Thanks for the link. ( and all the good work )

You can easy find page's source codes with a one line php script too. It really isn't worth the bother. Parrot's method is the only one I can think of without deleting the file / banning IPs. :P

You can disable right clicking but that won't do much good against View/Source.
