I received an inquiry through my registrant about one of my domain names. My WHOIS was set to private/protected.
He also sent me a private message in the same email.
Below is the Email:

Through which website can we contact a domain owner whose WHOIS is protected and include a personal message?

We need to run a WHOIS search query on whois.com.

Copy paste the URL in your browser. This will lead you to contact form through which you can contact the domain owner.


For some registrars like Namesilo, you need to send an Email directly to the mentioned Email Address:

And for some registars like Godaddy you need to contact them via Godaddy WHOIS:

My advice to get the details of someone owning a name is using the Wayback Machine (https://web.archive.org/) - will take you to many website incl their content pre-GDPR - meaning contact details and Whois details (provided there has been the same owner for a while). Worked for me for a name recently and I am now in negotiation with the owner
