Hi,

Firstly, if this kind of post is not allowed, then MOD please remove it from the forum. And I apologize if such question is not allowed to ask.

I have a prospect that wants me to develop website with online shopping. I haven't done this kind of commercial project before (online shopping), so I'm kind of unsure how much should I charge this client for building an online shopping website. I'm based in Australia. I'm thinking to use OsCommerce for the shopping cart.

Is AU$500 too cheap or too expensive or is it ok?

Any thoughts/experience that anyone wants to share on this plz?

Cheers,
Irvin

Are you also doing the design or are you just installing/customizing oscommerce?

Hi unlevel,

I think my client will just want me to install oscommerce, and provide some training of how to use the software.

Intially, I may also be required to add some products.

So any thoughts on this?

Cheers,
Irvin

Well, I'm thinking AU$500 might be a bit much, just look at how many hours it'll take to install oscommerce, and to explain a few things to him, and add products....You may also want to point him to a few sites for more indepth oscommerce learning, or even take a look at these yourself if you need help:

Hope those help, and if you need anything, just holler....

About the price....Set yourself up an hourly rate, and then base your calculations on that, $500 is a bit much in my opinion, but afterall, that's just an opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. :)

Its a bit much for an Install, and show...

I would charge ยฃ80 for the install and teach them how to use it with 30 days additional support to make sure they beocome confident in using it (includes adding some products), I would then charge an hourly rate for updating site..

Hope that helps

If you would like to figure out how much you want to charge, first think about how much your time is worth. If you think you should get $10/hour for the work, and you think it will take 10 hours to do everything, then ask for 25% more than what that totals.

So that would be:
$10 * 10hrs = $100 then $100 + .25(100) = $125 total

That is just an example. I usually say offer 25% more than what you want, so if you haggle the price to a lower value, then you will probably still get the amount you want.
