Hi all,

How easy or hard is to manage a GoDaddy VPS, especially for a newbie like me?

I have completely NO idea of all the technical stuff required to keep a virtual server up and running-my previous experience with SHARED (only) web hosting was with CPanel (uploading files, creating dbs, emails etc.).

According to GoDaddy you can use their "simple control panel", which seems quite easy, but is this all? Or do I have to know Linux, istall patch and security updates etc.?

Moreover, I need to install a third-party script (auction site like Ebay), which needs PHP 4.4 to properly run.-how I deal with the PHP version on a GoDaddy VPS?

Thanks for your help! :tu:

It shoudnt be too hard to manage, i dont use godaddy but you should have not trouble setting up your auction script.

Thanks for your reply dev99.

What about their servers? Are they managed or unmanaged? :-/ (E.g. if I need to install a specific version of php, will I be able to do it?)

Why not ask GoDaddy directly? You can test their customer support at the same time from their reply.

Also, if you're really looking for a managed VPS, I'd go with a company that specializes in one, not a domain company.

I definitely wouldn't recommend getting any sort of hosting package from Godaddy. I'd look for a true hosting company, not a domain registrar turned crap-hoster. I have used them for domains, and have had no issues, but I would never buy hosting from them.

If you need convincing, search for Godaddy at WHT. There may be some threads here, but they'd be hard to find, because they are usually mentioned here in a registrar context.

If you don't know what you are doing, best bet is to get a managed VPS.

I wouldnt use godaddy VPS for any site that needs to run a script, unless you are well versed with accessing the root to update scripts manually...plus Plesk version they use wont run certain version of scripts you require check compatibilities beforehand....I learned this lesson already with them....

Site using php mysql etc try using hostrocket.com there not bad for getting sites up and running....all scripts are fairly upto date...PHP 4.4.4.also you can use fantacio or whatever its called to install scipts instead of having to learn a language...lol
