That www you see there is just another word, like sex in sex.com

In its commonly known face, it will read as http://www.www.com

The www is nothing more than an alias that became popular to denote the world wide web. But in fact, you don't need it. People just like to type that in out of habit, or they fear the address will not work without it. Well, sometimes it doesn't because there was no wildcard set for the alias.

You could have hobbits.www.com for all the Internet cares by substituting the www with anything you want.

it has always confused me how www.domainname.com can sometimes not work when http://domainname.com does. one of my first websites was a joint project and the other person did all of the domain and hosting side of things. And for a few weeks www.rctcentral.com wouldn't work while http://rctcentral.com would. Back then i never knew why. Hell, now i wouldn't be able to tell you exactly why, and how to fix it.. but atleast i have an idea.
