My regular web browser is Opera. The only browser installed on my media centre (:hearts: MythTV) is Firefox, it came preinstalled and I am going to keep it that way - as wasting space on a media centre isn't the best plan for success.
Anyway, whenever I have to browse the web through my media centre PC it feels like I am wearing lead boots! Everything is just so much slower, and the whole computer slows down to a fraction of it's usual speed. It can't be the hardware, as I am using the computer as a media centre - which required decent hardware. If I look at the processes list, FF is eating huge amounts of CPU and RAM. How do you cope with this? I assume it is the same on Windows. Opera uses a tiny fraction of what FF does, and is much much faster as a result.

I cope with it the same way you cope with all the inoperable and ill-displaying sites. Not enough people build websites that display properly in Opera for me to switch. I have tried it, though. :)

I've never had any problems with slowness using Firefox, though. Opera actually does seem to be faster from my experiences.

I've found that Opera tends to be much more forgiving with XHTML, and I have only found one site that doesn't work at all (abbey.co.uk, and it doesn't display properly in FF either - they support IE6 and Netscape 7.2)

:bah:

I hate sites like that. I know (think?) Opera is better with Web standards -- which is great, if more sites would follow them!

I like Opera's "speed dial" page that has a tic-tac-toe board-looking page of sites you launch quickly. I know I'd use that.

FF works faster than any other browser i have tried on my computer. I simply hate IE except for somethings that just simply work better in IE. As for opera have not used it much so i dont have much to say about it.

Funny isn't it? Of the 3 browsers I have on my system(s), FF is much more responsive and fast.

Perhaps you're having the same problem I am. After a certain amount of time browsing, Firefox takes up 100% CPU and completely freezes my computer. I've read it some sort of memory leak that (I think) is being caused by my AMD processor... Anyone else have a problem like this?

It can't be caused by using an AMD processor - I'm using Intel. FF 2 has many known memory leaks and problems, FF 3 is much better, and I'm waiting for the stable version to be released before I upgrade.

Finally!! Someone else who has the same problems with Firefox!! Which is why I still prefer IE over Firefox. (I use Windows)

FF has gotten a bit bloated, I do hear that FF3 addresses some of these issues. Most say that the current Beta version of FF3 is very stable. Unless I can use the 8+ add-ons that I currently run in FF in IE I'll never switch back.

If you use IE is it really necessary to say you use Windows? There are some people who use IE on Mac, and some blasphemers who use it on Linux, but I would think that 99.9% of all IE users use Windows.

Mikor.....it comes very clear to me, looking at all your posts...you are a hardcore linux fellow..with one exception....a real hardcore linux guy is not bashing people wo are NOT using linux.....that just isn't their style...so just get over it, would you?( i am using ALL OS, so don't get at me like i am a windows prophet)
