On my Verizon based phone, when I bring up the web, I get the "Home Page" with a portal. There are eight numbered choices to choose from with different categories; news, weather, e-mail, more, sports, entertainment, VZW services, shopping. Press 1-8 to enter any of those categories.

If I wanted to type in any url, I have to scroll to and click "search" on the top right corner. Then I get three choices, 1-popular, 2-category, 3-go to url.
Press 3 to get to the next page, then you are ready to go to any website.

It sure would be easier if there was a way to type the website on the main page. The type-in traffic on many websites would increase.

Is it this way with all carriers? I wonder how many mobile phone users that use their browsers are unaware that they can type in any url?

this is a good point.
i was in the pub the other night & we were messing about with my mates phone & his birds.
now they use their phones all the time for surfing, unlimited for about 25 quid per month & free minutes etc
anyway, they get a google search box which they use for everything, they literally cannot get a normal browser bar to enter url. i tried too, just couldn't get the frigging thing :(

on my nokia phone you have a web options section.

in this section there is a go to address function, just type in the url and it takes you straight online to the url you wanted.

also there is a bookmark function

so you can type in the url you want befor even going on the internet on your phone

nokia are fairly easy to use and my developed .mobi's seem to be getting most of there traffic from nokia mobiles.

just my two pence :)
