How about instituting a minimum age limit and a spell checker? ;) j/k

good ideas

I misspelled a domain name in a headline for appraisal and couldn't fix

13+ for age (think that's the legal age for posting?)...but then we might miss some of the talented youth out there ; )

I dont think anyone under the age of 13 should be on here, as these are mainly business forums, and they dont have the suffiencent knowledge to provide a valuable service to the community ......

Ya, I think 13 is a good age limit. Don't you have to be 13 to create an account anyways???

supposedly, but parents can sign a form thing or somethign

Not saying that we actually want to limit by age, but even if we did, there's no viable way of enforcing it. Is there?

Well, basically, I was speaking "tongue in cheek".. and not to get anyone's dander up, but IMO 13 year old's really have no business here.

In fact, because of the nature of the site, the fact that many transactions require a credit card, and 18 is the minimum legal limit to enter into a contract, I think 18 is a good starting point...

I realize not everyone (especially the under-18's) would agree, but that's my opinion...

Spell check and the ability to edit the title would be great.. I find myself making alot of stupid typing or phonetic errors and that might help catch them...

Other than stating the required age limits, I guess not.. not many realize I'm actually a 12.5 yr old either.. on the internet, you can literally be anyone. ;)

I guess that's why credit cards are required some places for verification.. it helps validate a possible age range at least.

We shouldn't have to be baby sitters here... this is essentially a business forum, not a day care. ;)

I think 18 might be a little high for an age limit. I know there are a lot of really smart webmasters and domain traders, that are only 16 or 17. But even if we did have an age limit, would there be anyway to enforce it. People would just lie about their age. As for spell check, and editing your title, I think those are 2 excellent ideas. ;)

At 18, I like to know without a doubt that if I trade with, buy from, or sell to someone, I have legal recourse...

No doubt there are some smart, savvy under 18's but there are also some smarty-pants, if you get my drift.

I actually used to think this a big deal when I started at Namepros. I've since come to realize that for small-value transactions, legal remedies are hopelessly inappropriate (as in, who would actually go to court over a $25 domain sale?).

For big-ticket items, I have to take extra steps to protect my interest anyway. So whether or not the forum verifies the trader's age, doesn't matter either.

Possibly.. but as you say, there's no way to verify it anyway..

Not to mention that I've seen a few threads ruined IMO by the younger set...

Like I said, it was "tongue in cheek"...

nice thread

I was kind of serious about 13. If they find their way here, they're probably sharpening a real interest in the subject - and they are learning a lot.

I've had great employees at 14, 16 years - worked with me right through high school and college. S*M*A*R*T people.

My 12, 14, and 16 year old children have debit cards.

As far as quality of conversations and trades, probably not a whole lot different, proportionally, than other age groups - would that be a fair assessment NP staffer?

My question is it is not a porn site or something which is dangerous for age below 13
Then why limit it something by age?
Who knows there are people below 13 passionate for domains
Come on give them space to enjoy and know about this world
Just my two cents

I can see your point here Dgridley but I still disagree. (Yep you knew I would)

First of all I don't see what the point would be is changing the thing when you register from 13 to 18 because I could just as easially say I was 18 years old. And no one would know. Whats the point? Maybe they could make it a rule that you have to able to confirm your age for large sales (lets say over $100) to sell here on namepros. But for them changing it to 18, I don't see the point. I mean they could be living in the Dominican Republic and say they were in US. What would you do then? You can't go sue them (as far as I know) so it's just like they were under 18 as well. (If your wondering I just picked Dominican Republic randomly)

Also I don't see why there is an age limit at all, an 8 year old could just as easially say they were 13. I am sure you could tell from their posts that they were younger then they said, or just a moron (a moron is someone with the intelligence of an 8-12 year old right?), but they might be smart enough still to have complete sentences.

Just thinking back I barely knew any English when I was 8 years old.

As I pointed out earlier, it was said more "tongue in cheek" than anything.. I realize that short of cc validation or a pw gateway, there's no way to be sure, and not even then...

I agree, there is no way to check age or location of a member
I respect dg opinion and I understand him but the whole age thing its pointless

Two thumbs up for the spell check :tu:

His parents may have signed up for him. I didn't know there was an age limit though. I thought you just needed a CC.
