Hi all ^^

Can one hosting plan host like 10-20 domains? I mean if the plan is say $3/month, 5gb bandwith, can it host 10-20 domains?
because my domains will not get much traffic so 5gb for 10 domains is not a problem. Can it work that way?
Or one plan for one domain?
Since i am a noob can someone explain it a bit ^^

Thanks for your help ^^

Nope - most plans only allow one domain.

Hi,

The real answer is .... It depends.

It really depends on what sort of service you want for your domains ( IE speed of loading, up time etc ).

The actual limiting factor in domain hosting is not webspace or data transfer ( traffic ) but rather the number of domains on a server.

The reason is mainly down to the number of processes that are at work for each domain ( especially during the log rotation ).

Unfortunately during the last couple of years there are now many hosts ( mostly individuals working part time ) that can lease out a server and give people ' unlimited ' anything.

I have seen a dramatic increase in unlimited webspace / bandwidth / data transfer / domains etc. Talk to anyone that really manages servers and they will tell you that these claims are basically impossible.
It would be like going to your local garage and getting unlimited petrol ( gas ) for a low fixed fee a month.

Although things like cpu load / data transfer / bandwidth / webspace are not really ' physical ' products they all still cost money.

If someone is offering you hosting for 20 domains at $3 a month ( even if it is low transfer / webspace ) then you have to think if your business is worth more.

For a lot of people that will work out fine, just remember that most of these ' companies ' fill a server until it overloads then just go bust. They are playing the percentage game as we call it.

We do set a monthly data transfer limit ( my standards now is very small at 2Gb month ), but that is just to keep us in control. In four years we have only charged one company for over use even through quite a few do.

If you have a company in mind then just put their name into a search engine like Google and you will turn up opinions.

By the way do not take this as an advert for two reasons.

1) We only do one domain for one account.

2) I am selling up and getting out of the hosting business at last :)

All the best

Richard.

Good explanation, Richard.

I'd be interested in hearing of a good host that offers multiple domain support. I've found a great host that offers everything at a great price, but only for one domain per account.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks :)

As with everything in life .... you get what you pay for ( unfortunately with the internet you often get less than you pay for as well :) ).

A search in any search engine will turn up a whole load of web hosts, but if your business is important to you then do your research first on how they perform.

Believe me you would not believe what people are putting out there as hosting services these days :)

Wishing you all the best

Richard

You can get a reseller account. With that, you can host as many domains / websites you want. :)

Hi hadisentosa,

YES there is a hosting plan that you can host multiple domain names at.

It's the one I've been using for 3 years now and it's awesome to say the least. I've got 14 domains hosted in 1 account right now.

It will cost you $24.95 a month for the hosting account. 500 MB, 30GB Transfer with a WHOLE lot of stuff thrown in for free.

You can add multiple domains for $10 (one time fee) each. That's it. You can point them to different sub domains or to the same domain. It's up to you.

Check it out at http://www.ThirdSphere.com

It's owned by my friend Miguel so say Hi for me when you're there :).

Hope this helps.
GD

Well, there is multi-domain hosting that some hosts offer. But not for less than $7 a month I would think.

Reselling would be the way to go if you want more than 10-12 domains hosted. That's a little more than $3/month in your example though!

Great explaination, Richard!

hadisentosa, remember, you get what you pay for. :)

Actually, now most hosts offer plans to host multiple domains. Esp CPanel hosting, they have domain addon/parking functions. It just depends on how many domains the host let you addon.

Are you looking for mostly a place to park your domains, or for hosting active sites? Are you comfortable at all with the command line? What is a great price to you?

A couple people have posted that there are many reliable multiple domain webhosts out there, but no one is including any links to them.

Where are these reliable, multi-website supporting hosts?

Huh? :-/

Anyway, there are some great multiple-domain hosts mentioned at another forum, which has the acronym of WHT. Good resource there. (Just don't forget to come back here when you're done!)
