There are a number of things that people look for in a web hosting package.

Security, secure servers
Support request times, are they avilable 24 hours to help you with your issues?
Reliablity, reliable host?
Price, price wise
Email support, how many email can i send an hour?

The list could go on for ever. We have 100s of people emailing us every day with there questions.

Best of luck
Ben

I find it most people tend to look more at support than space/bandwidth/cost. They like knowing when something goes wrong there is someone there to help them with it.

1. Stay away from unlimited spaces/bandwidth
2. Support response timing
3. No overselling

Shared - multiple webmasters/accounts on a single server
advantages: lower cost for hosting packages
disadvantages: less control over the environment, one resource hog can affect your sites performance, possibility of overutilization of server (too many accounts on a single box)

Dedicated - your own personal server, located at their facilities. The hosting company owns all equipment
advantages: complete control of environment, no sharing with others unless you want to, ability to add your own software as you desire
disadvantages: can be pricey. If you get unmanaged, then you have to perform all software patches and updates, and maintain all security for the box

Co-located - your personal server, located at their facilities. You own the hardware, they provide the network connectivity and all teh datacenter facilities (rack, networking equipment, UPS, physical security, etc)
advantages: you're in COMPLETE control of hardware, software, etc., and all the advantages of a dedicated server
disadvantages: pricey. All the disadvantages of a dedicated plus your on the hook for hardware failures

VPS (Virtual private server) - you are provided a "sub system" of a physical box. An environment that logically appears to be a dedicated server, but is actually shared amongst several accounts
advantages: cheaper than a dedicated with almost all, if not all, the advantages
disadvantages: youre still sharing resources with other accounts, though usually your guaranteed a certain amount of resources burstable to another limit if the resources are available at the time

There, that should get you started...

Just to let you know you spelled many words wrong. (Wandering=Wondering) (poeple=People) (hotsing=hosting)

Stability, likelihgood to be in existence a few months later...those are now primary. There are so many "hosting companies" that are fly-by-night operations. Check when the domain was created--if it was just a few months ago and there does not appear to be any other affiliations, you should be cautious.
