I've been designing functional art pieces- mostly lamps- for about 15 years and have sold them exclusively through galleries, specialty furniture stores and to interior designers from my studio over the past 10 years. I use a simple "for the trade" site: LampDesigner.com for the sole purpose of displaying new designs to store owners.
In the past, I have only made unique, one of a kind pieces for my store customers, so, in what is a departure for me, I am doing limited runs of 50 lamps of three new designs, the first of which I have just put on eBay, as a way of testing the waters. So the $89 price tag, (starting bid), on these is quite a deal, considering that the lamps are each individually handmade and the mininum retail price for any of my lamps is $300, and on averege, my lamps retail for $550-$650 at the galleries and have sold for as high as $4,500, for custom pieces.
Some of the famous people that have my lamps in their homes include: Arnold Schwartznegger, Mel Gibson, Alec Baldwin, Darryl Hannah, Linda Hamilton, Ed Harris, Whoopee Goldberg, James Cameron, Neil Young, Steven Stills and so on. I have also been a guest on several TV shows, including The Christopher Lowell Show and have been written up in Interior Design, Dwell, Home Furnishings and other magazines.
