I picked up hip-hop.co.nz in an expired domain drop auction 28 days ago & have had it on paid parking since then.

In that time it's earned US$13.76.

That's the positives. Google claims no links to it on a link: query, and gives it PR0 but a search on the domain name in quotes turns up 89 references, many of them are links. Yahoo is the same. MSN lists 72 links, alltheweb 188 and altavista 202.

I've just received a query from a potential buyer.

I've never had a query on a domain that's actually paying its way on parking before & am unsure how to value it. What should I ask for the name & what should I settle for?

Many thanks

Bruce

$14 per month X 12 months = $164 per year. Minus the Reg Fee is $155 profit per year. I have found my best parked name increased revenue with time--does anyone know why? If I had your name I would would not sell it for less than 4 years profit or $620.00 (But since I do not own it I personally would not give $620 for it--even though that logic doesn't make sense) So you might want to figure that in. However if Hip Hop loses popularity your domain name loses value. So figure that in.

How much difference does the TLD make on how much parked income a name gets?

I'd value your name at $620.

Thanks for that analysis gdave. I found it very useful.

I've noticed that some parked domains seem to do better over time for a while but mostly they level out after a few months. I've put it down to the effects of the parking service having good SEO on their parking pages & constantly tweaking it to follow the search engines.

cctlds get virtually no type-in traffic from outside the relevant country. Search engines and links still send traffic through. Google & Yahoo have regional variations & because they count as "National" google.co.nz can end up sendinging quite a bit of traffic to parked .co.nz sites.

As far as I can tell the per-click revenue is based on the country where the user's IP address is coming from, so if your site attracts people from a certain area that affects things too.
