I'm a complete newbie to domains. I have two options - to sell my domain names somehow or to start building on them. (I use networksolutions). I don't think I want to go through the obsessive grind day after day just to get $5 a month or whatever in profit. I think the best option is to sell these domain names for whatever I can get.

These are my 4 domain names:
globalwarmingrisk.com
globalwarmingrisk.org
howtodostuff.info
howtodostuff.org

What do you people think?

Well, you mentioned $5.00...
About what all four are worth.

Best bet is to develop them all and then see if people will buy them for a few dollars on up.

First of all welcome to NP.
Second if I were you I would transfer the names out of Network Solution:
- it's expensive ( especially renewals )
- not many domainers would buy a name that is hosted there
Third : your first name is not a bad one but the others are not amazing + they are not .coms.
You could try to sell them as a lot here on NP starting at 1$:
you could try on Godaddy or you could try to develop them and sell the websites but don't invest a lot of money in development or you might not get your investment back
