I hope this is the right forum thread::

Ok, so i created a online store for a buddy of mine. The site is up and running, and everything is working the way it should.

So he calls me the other day and wants me to add a small image that says "free shipping" to all the webpages. Adding it manually to the 3 main pages (Home, New Items, Customer Service) wouldn't be a big deal. But He also wants it added to all the individual product pages 50+.

So i'm looking around at sites like directron and other sites like it. They have specials on all their sites, and i'm sure they don't do it all manually.

So i'm thinking, is there a way to seperate a page into sections or blocks and have the block call up the information, such us images, or forms or items or menus or ......

Kinda like Cascading style sheets do for text, but have it do it for all the other pages too.

Also, is there a program that would take a change to the main page, and update that change on all my other pages? (Like if i wanted to add a colum on the right side to include various specials)

Is there a way to do that with Dreamweaver MX, or do i need to upgrade to Dreamweaver DEV? Is there an other program that is better suited for this?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I saw no one had replied as of yet, and I don't have a direct answer but here is some input:
Sorry I can't give you a technical answer, but I'll try and give you some advice. If you're using dreamweaver mx, go to their support site and search the site for the answer there. I know I used front page in the past and when I would run into these type ?'s, I'd search the support sites and usually find my answers in there. I know there has to be a way to get those images on all the pages, with out much trouble. Definitely with dreamweaver there should be, I mean front page has an option similar to what you're talking about. On front page you would right click the main page and go under page properties and you could get it to copy an image, text, etc...to all the other pages in your site, so there must be a way in DreamWeaver. I have DW also, but could never figure out how to use it! So I have been stuck with FP, which is pretty plain and basic! I wish I could have been more helpful and answered the ? directly for you. Hope I have been of some hlep though.

Thanks for the reply.

I found out you can use templates in dreamweaver, and if you do it right, it will update any pages you have made from it if you did not move them from the original folder you saved them in.

Also you can do research on Include files.
Various Methods available
Make a standard Footer file and attach it to the bottom of page.

Look into using SSI.

Use CSS + <div>

It would be some work as a one off, but you could create a division on each page & change it as needed through its class on a style sheet. This could include its size, positioning, border, background-image & so on. Hence, for each new sale or whatever, a .gif or .jpg could be created & referenced as a background image & the division's dimensions altered to fit. There are likely other ways, but this one is pretty simple.
