Help! Please!

I know this isn't exactly the right place, but the "newbies" caught my attention. Here's the problem. I signed on to help generate links for this guy and now he expects me to update his site. He gave me the FTP access I need and it works just fine. I am using dreamweaver. Now, how do I proceeed? I downloaded the page from my browser and reopened it in dreamweaver. Upon opening a message says found 33 browser check errors. Even more, most of the content is gone. If I add the links and put the file, will the site be updated to include all the missing data? Im on a mac here folks. I am in over my head. Can someone walk me through this?

My advice is to login to the FTP, download the entire folder (depending upon the program, you should simply be able to drag and drop) and go from there. If you don't have FTP software - SmartFTP is a good way to go.

Once you download the folder things will be a little easier to work with. Is the site simply HTML or is it more such as PHP?

Dreamweaver has FTP functionality built-in. You just need to input the ftp settings in your DW site definition. Once you do that you should be able use the "Get entire Site" option to download the full site or do a get on the web page you need to edit and it should ask you if you want to get the other files that are linked to in the page. The missing content is linked items(pictures, etc.) that you don't have on your PC. When dreamweaver opens the page it tries to access the pictures but they can't be found because most website reference images and sub pages using relative paths like images/picture.jpg rather than a full path such as http://www.somesite.com/images/picture.jpg.

I probably just confused you more but I hope iI've got you pointed in the right direction.

I guess the best way to do this is to download the entire folder and files to your hard drive and edit them locally. Upload it back when you finish. Dreamweaver FTP built-in feature is rather complicated IMHO if you're not really experienced with it.
