Ok. Thanks for looking and I would appreciate suggestions.

I have a working website, that I wanted to expand on the idea from.

I copied the to the new site name, changed the config file to reflect the new database name etc.

The site appears and it also appears to work, but when I click on a link that seems to be stored in the database as it should, it get this error --

Not Found
The requested URL /customer-service-representative-post-553.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What should happen is the link should display in more detail as it does on the original site.

I have looked for an .htaccess file and haven't found anything, checked the permissions and they are the same. Ran the files though comparison software...the files appear to be identical.

What am I overlooking that is preventing the new site from working?

btw...I also changed the config file on the new site to access the old database and it works.

I changed the old site to access the new database and it works properly.

So...I know I must be overlooking something that is preventing the new site from operating like it should.

Like I said...suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Craig

It appears that you had a URL rewriting scheme on the former site.
Did you copy the .htaccess files if any (these are hidden files) ?

i clicked select all and then copy to the new site.

I also tried this...i downloaded the old site and uploaded, thinking maybe the .htaccess would only come with it that way...that didn't work either.

I did a download of the old site and and looked for a .htaccess file, but couldn't find one, unless it is buried way deep.

I have always found the .htaccess file in the main area near the config files...can they be located elsewhere in the file system?

yes, there can be an .htaccess in every folder. each htaccess applies to the folder it's in and any subfolders.

if I downloaded all the files and looked them one by one ...the .htaccess file should be a text file correct?

That is what I thought. Just not seeing anything that fits that description.

Hmmmm....any other suggestions?

Does this run off a pre-existing, distributed script - or a custom made script?

Dan.

I am not sure if I understand the question.

I purchased the script from here on namepros...assuming it was custom as it was cleared in script section of namepros.

In anycase...a site was developed based on the script (by the script owner) and I purchased the site in it's entirety from here on namepros.

Make sure your FTP program is displaying hidden files.

ok...this can be closed.

In cPanel I found a file manager Icon. I clicked it...it gave me a display .files option. I said yes...there the .htaccess file was showing its bad self.

I copied to the directory that was not acting properly and bam...it works great.

Thanks to everyone especially for Nasaboy for the assistance in trying to solve issue.
