My problem is this:

I have a website (www.mmi-online.co.uk) and I am currently promoting a free online tax helpdesk for which all my marketing material states the address as www.mmi-online.co.uk/help

Unfortunately, typing that link in the browser doesn't work because the browser needs .../help.htm for it to find the file.

Is there a way I can get the browser to find the correct page without typing the '.htm' part. I notice a number of sites (probably asp sites) that do not need the extension to view the page.

Many thanks for your help.

In order to use it this way :

http://www.mmi-online.co.uk/help

There would need to be a sub directory named "help" /help within the main Directory.

I'm sure there are many ways to do it - But that seems the simplest to me.

if your going to do a subdomain like /help remember to put a file in there named index so it picks it up (you could always just use a folder you dont have to do use a subdomain ;))
