www.Hello.im development
i am looking to develop www.hello.im into a site where users can create profiles and such. either dating site or not. Maybe a forum or install prgram lthat would allow users to create a profile with their name being such as

www.hello.im/username or www.hello.im/bob

anyone have any ideas, suggestions etc for me?

Good idea.

If im remember rightly, there is a blog CMS that allows users to register and create a blog, and their url would be /username.

I think that would be perfect for you if you havn't already made/got a script.

It's a shame though, i can't remember the name. :red:

However, i will have a look around, if i find it, i will post it here for you to have a look at. :)

Adrian

EDIT:

Hi,

Ok, i'm back, i couldn't find the one i was looking for, i think it was free.

However, i have found this, which would do the job, http://www.bloghoster.net/ This is a bit pricy though.

There is a free piece of software for this, I don't know what it's called, but they are using it over at MKPitstop.co.uk.

I know this because I wanted to do something similar. I will ask the admin of the site and get back to you in this thread!

Good luck with the site, let me know when it's done!

Hi Klass Koopman, the software over at MKPitstop.co.uk, seems to be drupal.

Well, atleast in the source code it says,
<style type="text/css" media="all">@import "/misc/drupal.css";</style>
I could be wrong though.

Yeah it's drupal, got a reply just a few seconds ago! Well drupal is capable of doing this so... you might want to take a look into it! If you need help, you could register at the mkpitstop forums and ask madkad!

Oh and Hitch, my name is Klaas, not Klass ;)

Wow that looks cool il def have to check into that.
Do you think its a name worth dev as such?

or maybe a script like www.no_url_shorteners has to allow redirecting to a shorter link.? anybody heard of that before?

Do you have experience with Apache mod_rewrite? Using that you could either create a virtual directory that redirected to the user's page, or actually create a directory upon the user's registration.

If you know what you're doing with it, that could be your best option, but first and foremost you should be cautious if not experienced with it. I've used it somewhat myself, but not on a very deep or involved level. Security is an issue if you aren't sure about what you are editing and adding.

Also, nice pick up. I saw it earlier but had already registered enough so passed it up. It's a very good one though, I wish I had come across it before purchasing a few already. :imho:

Take care.

to be honest I defenitely think it can be something good, that is if you develop it right! why do you need a shorter link? The current domain plus the folder name behind it is perfect! That is what makes that domain good, if not really good!

Now just develop it so it can be used! Let me know if you need any help regarding the design/graphics!

OH and thanks for the REP! I appreciate it!

Seems more profitable to me for it to be a directory-based website :imho:

If your not afraid of code then Wordpress MU is great, i'm using it for one of my projects at the moment. The standard template is a Wordpress one so customizing the template is very easy. Google "Wordpress MU"
