Has anyone used LiteSpeed?

Hi!

Few days ago I have firstly met this thing - litespeed server. This is used by simplehelix.com, and possibly by some other companies instead of Apache and Zeus. In particular, on the simplehelix' site, they claim it is significatly faster than Apache, and thus company is really faster than competitor... no matter who is faster, but has anyone used this server or were hosted at such server? What could you tell me about it...

No experience with Lightspeed but one noticeable thing I have heard is that they supports direct admin as the control panel.

I think that improve server usage and coefficient of efficiency. So they can host more stuff there. But you as end user will see no difference, unless you have dedicated server

Zeus is more expensive but has more resources than Apache.

I was told LiteSpeed does increase server performance etc. But I find it not actually necessary as long as you do not oversell and overcroud your servers. As in many could fill maybe 50 users per server, but with litespeed you are apprently able to fill it up more yet not have the server start to slow down

I suppose this software is good to use for eCommerce projects, I concluded this after getting to know simplehelix.com is being specialized in eCommerce hosting. I suppose this gives people who use e-stores and their owners work with information faster..

Yes, Litespeed is indeed faster than Apache and it has it's own nice realtime admin UI. However, unless you are running a REALLY busy website, you won't feel the difference.

But the only drawback is...LiteSpeed does not support server side includes (SSI). I am not sure if they have started supporting it recently (I doubt it).

I believe you are right! According to the replies here, this server makes busy websites work fine - and eCommerce projects must be really busy ones.

I guess simplehelix.com has chased namely this purpose, when they set Litespeed up...

I also wonder, if it could help site to survive digg effect?

Do not know about technical features of litespeed, but I know that simplehelix.com is really good company for eCommerce - very fast and reliable provider.

Looks like namely this software made them faster.
