There are thousands of web hosts on the internet, some better than others. It's important that you make the right decission when choosing a web host that is reliable, affordable and stable!

I have created this small guide to help assist you in choosing the right web host for your site and what you should avoid in the industry.

1) Say NO! to unlimited hosts
People say it again and again, never purchase an unlimtied web host, there is no such thing as "unlimited", you will also usually find when reading the terms for these type of packages that they will suspend you if you are usuing to many resources, so how can this be unlimited??

2) Don't purchase from eBay
Ebay web hosts are VERY cheap but you will usually find within 2 months they will run and simply open up another account. Most of the time eBay hosting sellers are on a very unreliable and cheap reseller account, they will then sell a large amount of even cheaper accounts, in result creating a large income for the seller but a VERY bad service for the buyer.

3) Proxy Hosting
Proxy hosts are very strict on what resources you use, there are a few tips to reduce your usage, one fo which is to park multiple domains for your proxy to one main proxy, this will reduce your usage and make your host happy :)

4) 24/7 Support
Not many small hosts offer 24/7 chat support, so don't assume its chat support. The statement "24/7 support" may refer to ticket support.

5) Do some research!
There are 100's of top web host sites, have a look at whos been rated the best of the best, chances are these customers will have so many customers that the feedback can be very reliable, however remember some people are very hard to please!

6) Support the small!
Many users like small web hosts as they are usually a lot more friendly and 1-2-1. For example if you went to a host like HostGator you speaking to someone who is there as a job, however if you go to a small host, there person at the end of the line is usually very passionate about he/she does and there for is more lickely to assist you.

7) Beware of overselling!
Many hosts oversell, this means that they sell more than is actually available to them in the hope that most users won't use there packages full resources, for example if they had a server with 250GB HDD space, they could sell 100 packages with 5GB (total: 500GB), but due to the users only using say 200GB, they can do it!

Hope this helps.

Good ones listed!!

I would also add to know about the number of databases offered with your package. Again, unlimited host with few databases is not going to help you for sure...
